You have your vast office, studio in Soho or Shoreditch address. These days you drink orange mocha frappuccino instead of tea, you have a tablet not a laptop, read blogs instead of newspapers and watch vimeo instead of TV.
You live in a very social world full of butterflies, creativity, connectedness - adding value where ever you go, you glide down the new silicon corridor just in time for the 2012 games.
Then you realise that the rest of the world still runs on sales, price, cash-flow and those gut wrenching things called tenders and pitches. You have to mange your time, their attitude, phone calls at night from clients who you sold social media to (d’oh! - Not again - when will you learn?) they thought that meant it would get them business! You lie awake in a cold sweat thinking how you will ever mange to upgrade to an ipad2 if you loose the client....
Fear not! We have called in Adam and Jim to run this session....
At techMAP London we have had film, contagious content, measurement, #techforgood, discussed what happened in 2010 and now..... - well we could call this session - "how to pay your rent." - To stay alive you will need to sell things, manage that process, not get taken for a ride, know how to qualify people, find the right fit, say no instead of saying yes and just be savvy and professional about getting the money in. Of course Adam and Jim are going to do all this in an hour. Well they won't but they will try. Who are they? Adam and Jim run Teeming - here they work specifically with agencies to generate referrals, repeat business, build relationships and all those other things people did before the internet. Typically, these days they’ve been a little roughed up by the recession and now want to get their growth back on track, but doing so is proving harder than expected.
Of course NO ONE in the techMAP community would feel like this... would you?
- Struggling to get in front of qualified prospects. Perhaps you’ve tried marketing your way out of the problem using DM and email campaigns but are unhappy with the results?
- Meeting lots of people, spending huge amounts of time creating proposals and taking part in pitches but failing to win the business?
- Chasing unappealing business because you feel having something in your pipeline is better than having nothing?
