Restorative Yoga Workshops

Relax & Renew in our Restorative Yoga Workshops!

Mark your Calendars!  On August 19, August 22 and August 24, we will be presenting three separate Restorative yoga workshops. 

These three workshops will lead into regular weekly classes immediately following the end of the workshops. This is a great way to introduce yourself to this wonderful practice and have a head start for the upcoming sessions.

Restorative yoga is a form of yoga that seeks to achieve physical, mental and emotional relaxation with the aid of props. The use of props makes it easier for you to maintain balance while you are stimulating and relaxing your body. While some restorative yoga poses are beneficial to the entire body, others target specific parts of the body, such as the heart or the lungs.

Modern restorative yoga is derived from a yoga style that was invented by B.K.S. Iyengar, who is widely regarded as one of the greatest yoga masters in the world. Iyengar instructed his students to make use of props to perfect their poses, and his teachings became known as Iyengar Yoga, which provided the foundation for the development of restorative yoga. Later on, one of Iyengar's students, Judith Lasater, made restorative yoga a popular form of yoga around the world.

The benefits of Restorative yoga provides healing for the body and the mind. It is especially useful when you need to eliminate fatigue and stress that result from your daily activities. It can also help you recover from illness and injury or overcome emotional depression and anxiety that are caused by traumatic events such as divorce, loss of job and death of a beloved.

It is known that restorative yoga can activate the parasympathetic nervous system, which enables automatic control of the body. As such, the regular nervous system will be at rest, and the muscles will become more relaxed. Constant practice of restorative yoga will make your body less vulnerable to stress-related illnesses and help you achieve optimal health. 

We use a variety of props like blankets, bolsters, straps, and blocks to completely support the body in a variety of poses. We hold many of the poses for 1-30 minutes. Some of the postures provide passive stretching and stimulate different areas of the body. Others are designed simply to allow pure, unqualified rest.

Participants can attend all three sessions for $50.00 or any session for only $20.00.

What to wear / bring with you:

Wear comfortable, form fitting clothing; not too loose, not too tight.  Something that you would feel comfortable stretching in. If you have them, bring Yoga Mats, Blankets / Rolls, Blocks, 8ft- 10ft Straps with D-rings or clips, an eye pillow and towels.  A limited number of mats, blocks, straps and blanket/rolls will be available on a first come, first serve basis.  Alternatively, these items can also be purchased through our boutique.

Rentals will also be available for eye pillows, neck rolls, and extra thick organic cotton restorative yoga mats. Costs range from $1.00 for the eye pillow & neck rolls to $2.00 for the meditation pads.
