Just spent an hour on the platform down in Dorset, trains are a mess trees down everywhere and no chance of getting there in time. Sorry, I was looking forward to it, hope to meet people at the next one soon.

Glad to hear the feedback folks, keep it coming.
I've just posted a brief writeup of the event here:

Hi, thanks for all the feedback and positive comments. I've done a Storify of the meetup

I found the presentation extremely clear and useful. I have been using GATE applications for text analysis in connection with machine translation on a small scale for the best part of ten years and will certainly be keeping an eye on this market place if my requirement evolves.

Thank you very much for the nice event and great discussions, the food and the drinks. I wanted to share a couple of general points that some of the participants were discussing after the session.

    1. It would be a good idea to have some batches with the name and company for each participant. In addition to this, Jose Llarena proposed to also show the "interest" of the person (e.g., developing, research, commercial, ...).

    2. I think the venue was quite nice. The only thing that some people proposed was a change of the layout to encourage more interaction. One idea was to enforce more "empty space" without tables nor chairs.

    3. Following the previous point, I would like to suggest some kind of mentoring program if possible for the new members to help them interact more. The format can be a senior member to be assigned to a new member and have a quick chat and introduction. This might be an overkill but it will be quite nice for new, shy members.

Please let me know what you think.

    Just received this from TfL:

I am writing to let you know that following constructive talks, the Tube strike action by the RMT and TSSA unions, which had been planned for this week has now been suspended.

Our services will therefore operate as normal.

    February 11

  • Tony R.

Quick update re travel: apparently one of the unions has called off their tube strike. If the other still goes ahead, then you can find details of provisional services here:

The situation seems to be changing by the hour, so stay tuned for updates. Either way, this meetup *will* go ahead :)
