This is a chance to help out young people in need -- and have fun in the kitchen together!
Urban Peak is is a nonprofit organization that helps young people in the Denver area overcome homelessness and other real-life challenges to become self-reliant adults. The first Saturday of every month, we cook dinner for the teens at the Urban Peak youth shelter. (We could serve anywhere from 15 to 40 young people, depending on how cold it's going to be overnight and other factors.)
We will meet at Albertson's at 4:00, buy groceries, then drive to the shelter and start cooking.
For your reference, here's the address of the shelter:
Urban Peak Youth Shelter
1630 S. Acoma St.
Denver, CO 80223
(Warning: A few first-time volunteers have followed their GPS to "Urban Peak" and ended up at the Urban Peak administrative offices downtown. Don't make that mistake! We're going to the shelter on South Acoma Street.)
We serve dinner at 6:30pm. After all the young people have been served, we'll serve ourselves and eat in the dining area with them. We're typically finished around 7:00 and go out on the town afterwards.
Each volunteer is asked to contribute $20 for groceries. Please bring $20 in cash with you to Albertson's.
If you RSVP for this event, please treat it as a real commitment. We will be counting on you to help. If you have car trouble or get sick at the last minute or anything like that, please call or text Dan at[masked] to let him know. Thanks!
