Let's backpack Yosemite before the season ends.
We will spend Friday night at the Tuolomne Meadows backpacking camp. Saturday morning we take the trail to Elizabeth lake. The first 2.2 miles is a standard trail, but from Elizabeth Lake we continue on an unofficial use trail over a saddle to Echo Creek Valley and follow it south-west towards Nelson Lake. Saturday night we camp near Nelson lake (fires not permitted at the lake). Sunday we head via Reymann Lake cross-country to the saddle east of the lake and then down to the Rafferty Creek trail and back to Tuolomne Meadows.. Total distance around 14 miles (at least 3 miles of this will be off-trail) with about 3000 ft total elevation gain. Parts of the trip will be strenuous.
We have five open spots on a permit for a total of eight people. I'm bringing two guests. I'll leave it open until Monday, August 26th for people to RSVP. If we have more than five people trying to get on, then we'll do a lottery. We'll have a deposit for those who are on the "yes" list.
