Hi, I have permit with 2 spots left for an intermediate/advanced trip to beautiful Thousand Island Lake in Ansel Adams Wilderness (in Inyo National Forest). Went there last year and it was so gorgeous that a second trip is in order!
Group size: 6 (+ 1 very sweet dog)
Here's the plan so far:
-Carpool from Bay Area to Mammoth Lakes, CA. Camp at Old Shady Rest campground that evening.
-take shuttle to the trail head, hike 8-9 miles up the River or High trail (TBD), per this map.
Saturday, 7/5: TBD, there are some gorgeous lakes nearby as well as Banner Peak.
Sunday, 7/6: hike out and drive home!
-Elevation at Mammoth Lakes, CA and Old Shady Rest Campground: approx 7,800 ft
-Elevation at Thousand Island Lake: 9,833 ft
approximately $18 for Wilderness permit + campground permit + shuttle to trail head. If carpooling together, we'll plan to split gas costs as well.
Bear Canisters are required in this area.
The group is a mix of diverse, self-sufficient backpackers who have each been on numerous trips over the last year. We're pretty chill and may engage in boxed wine and Cards Against Humanity :)
I would say this trip is a solid "intermediate" with a touch of "advanced" due to the elevation. We just want to get up the mountain with some good folks!
We'll be doing a lottery for the 2 spots by Monday, JUNE 16, so please RSVP by then. I'll have a Google doc to share with additional details once we round out the group.
