I'm not, but it should be a fun time. Enjoy.

From my experience last night, the two major advantages to the front area are lighting and music volume. Playing near the bar from 7-8 last night was really loud, and I don't mind the angsty and aggro music they often play at ML but it made learning a new game, and communicating with other players, a lot less enjoyable. Also, as George mentioned, the lighting is pretty low.

While we're considering options, we should keep in mind that either of these problems might be solvable. I'm not generally one to ask a business to change their environment to suit me (i.e. turning down the music) but if they appreciate why we're there, they might be willing to in this case. I'm not sure about the lights, but we might bring it up.

Also -- and this would be taking the "how much do you love us" even further -- they DO have an upstairs, which is usually closed. I don't know its current state, but what if it was clean enough for us to sit up there? We could have our own room.

My understanding is that when the upstairs opens up, there is an independent bar up there, so they staff a bartender up there in addition to the regular one that resides downstairs. So they pay another staff member. The website also mentions the upstairs, and there it talks about how it can be reserved for parties or etc. So I would gather that people that have a big event or party pay them for the room and then part of the fee they paid goes to hiring that additional bartender.

Good to know. They may not be open to us hanging out up there if there is an unsecured and untended bar...

The final, and perhaps least desirable option is to find a new space. It could be that we've outgrown Murphy's Law. I tend to think this isn't true. I like the bar, but I'm not opposed to keeping our options open. If you know of a perfect place, please throw it out there. Philip said that the Tuesdays we're there, the bar makes waaaaay more money than the other Tuesdays, so I know they'd like to keep us. I didn't come out and ask him, but this is potentially something we could even parlay into sponsorship (i.e., they pay our ~$140 bucks per year to maintain the MeetUp).

Anyway, I think all options are on the table. Please chime in with your thoughts Thanks, and game on!

I definitely like the current location. Since they do get a bunch of business that is directly related to our meet up, I wonder if they would be willing to accommodate us by reserving the front area for us every other Tuesday?

I talked a bit with Philip, our friendly bartender about the Architect study group, and I learned that they come every Tuesday at 6pm. I know the lack of the front tables is causing a bit of an issue for some of us, so I've been thinking about how to address this.

One option is that we start the MeetUp at 6. As long as 1 person arrives earlier than that and snags those tables, we'll have them. There are several people that can't get there early, but as people are coming in and out regularly, I don't see this as too much of a problem. It's more a question of whether there are at least a few people that can be there by 5:45 or so...

Second, the group leaves by about 8pm. This means that even if we start at 7 and they have the front, it's only an hour until we can take over. To this point, Philip said he can keeps the lights brighter in the bar for us. (continued in next post...)

There are people with laptops in the front section. I'm unsure if they are with the group but I doubt it. I don't know many people in this group yet.

It's a study group that started meeting there last meetup. If anyone is already there, they should be straight back at those tables. Just ask.

    I won't make it until after 8:30.

Probably won't make it. Heard the study group is back and has already taken over the front section. Last time it was too dark for me in the bar to play. See y'all in 2 weeks. Have fun.
