Hey guys, sorry I have not been terribly active this fall; it has been a crazy
week, month?& season and my job and?family matters have kept me reeling.
Anyway, based on the feedback we have gotten from 2010, we have a few changes we
plan to make in 2011.
1) We will be switching all our games to a?single system, and we have settled on
Chaosium's BRP System, which Glenn brought to the August Gaming Meetup, and
which we have been EXTREMELY impressed. It is percentile based, and uses
essentially the same system as Call of Cthulhu,?ElfQuest/RuneQuest and Dark
Heresy/Rogue Trader. I and?others have shown a strong preference for the ease of
play for percentile based systems.?In addition, BRP has TONS of supplements that
allow it to be reconfigured for any kind of game. They also offer a?FREE, LEGAL
download of their basic system at the following web address.
This is ONLY regarding the Friday Night gaming, though we will likely bring some
BRP adventures on Saturdays in the future.
2) Players have enjoyed playing a variety of different systems. However, many
have mentioned that they miss being able to play a continuing character and to
build their characters up. In response, we have decided to keep most of our
Friday game sessions confined to a few games/settings using the BRP system.
These will still be rotated to keep things fresh, but will allow for players to
keep the same characters and enjoy them.
We have decided on the following 4 settings to start with;
1- Classic Advanced Dungeons & Dragons; We have found an EXCELLENT rules
conversion for BRP from the 1st Edition AD&D, and plan to run a classic fantasy
2- Modern Horror; This will be a continuation of the characters and concepts we
introduced in Little Fears and continued (using Call of Cthulhu) in Teenage
Terrors. It will pretty much be Call of Cthulhu, but will add additional rules
for magic, powers, and will be much broader in scope than just Lovecraftian
Horror. The players will be a group of young adults who are becoming hunters,
similar to shows like Supernatural or Buffy/Angel, or games such as Hunter the
Reckoning and other White Wolf games set in the World of Darkness.
3- Star Wars; No explanation needed here. We have found TONS of Star Wars
supplements for BRP, and plan to run a game in the Knights of the New Republic
setting, set a little over 1000 years after the events of the movies.
4- American Gods; This will be a mixture of Modern Horror and Super-Hero, in
which the players take on the roles of various mythological deities who have no
followers and have lost most of their powers. Now they have been offered a
position as part of an elite group of government-sponsored superheroes, giving
them a chance to step back into the limelight and regain their powers.
More information will follow as we finalize the details for 2011.
