Re: [TheBBG] Battleship gaming event? Rule mods

Torpedo rule.
1.  each player gets 2 torpedoes.
2.  you use a torpedo instead of a regular turn, by announcing "torpedo" and then declaring which row or column it is entering the board from.  For instance: "Torpedo.  row C from the far side." or "column 6 from the top".
3.  the player being torpedoed, traces the path of the torpedo on his board in the indicated direction.
a) if the torpedo does not encounter a ship the response is “Miss”
b) if the torpedo encounters a ship, the response is “Hit” and announce the coordinates of the hit.  Example “Hit. C-4”.

Spotter Plane rule.
1.  each player gets one spotter plane.
2.  you use the spotter plane instead of a regular turn by announcing “Spotter plane” and then declaring a grid coordinate.  Example: “Spotter plane.  B-6”.
3.  your opponent then looks at that grid and the 8 cells around it and declares how many Sightings there are in that 9 cell area.  Notice they do not reveal the coordinates of the sightings. Example: “Spotter Plane gets 2 sightings.” Or “There are no sightings.”

Subject: [TheBBG] Battleship gaming event?

Proposal:  in conjunction with the release of the upcoming "Battleship" movie I would like to do 2 things;

1.  Collect, from any and all, Battleship rule variations (like having a Spotter plane or 1 or 2 torpedoes) AND
2.  Having a giant battleship tournament at a meetup around the time of the movie to crown someone as the "BBG Admiral" - a title that can be used all year until the next tournament.  Yes, an annual event!

Note: using the traditional battleship boards.

Onward,
Tony
