Cross Country Ski at Elver (beginners welcome, rentals available)

01/22/2014

Everyone, so far this weekend is looking really great weather-wise.

Elver Park is a big place, and it may be difficult especially for new people to find the group. We will be meeting inside the warming hut and I'll try to let the folks staffing the place know that if anyone is looking for the meetup group, they should be sent to wherever the group finds a spot. Also, my phone number is listed below - feel free to call in case you can't find the group.
Try to be on time, since once everyone checks out rental gear, we will head out, and it will be harder to find people on the trails.

Finally, keep your RSVPs up to date, and I'll see you all out there on Saturday!!

01/11/2014: IMPORTANT, Please read:

I went out to Elver, and the trails are icy as feared. I'm rescheduling the event to Jan 25th.

Please update your RSVP to reflect your ability to make the new date.

----------------------------------

Considering the rain we got yesterday, the cross country ski trails may be rather icy and unsafe today. I called up Elver park, and they cautioned pretty much the same thing. I’ll be going out there to scout out the trails now, but there’s a good chance this event will have to be rescheduled to a couple of Saturdays out (I’m out of town next weekend). I especially feel bad about having to reschedule, because of the tremendous interest shown on here; but weather has its ways!  Anyhow, please check back for the final verdict before heading out to Elver. I’ll try to update as soon as possible.

----------------------------------

We will go Cross Country Skiing at Elver Park. Elver has a fair bit of Ski trails ranging across different difficulty levels, including easy trails.
A daily pass / annual pass is required if you are bringing your own gear.
They have gear rentals - boots, poles and skis. That costs $9 (including daily pass) for the first hour, and $5 for additional hours.

Bring Cash with you for rentals / day pass.

We'll gather at the warming hut, so we can get gear for everyone etc before we head out.

    Are there skis left?

Hope some of you see this in time. I'm here early, and there are only a few skis/shoes left for rental. It's a first come, first serve basis, so good luck!

Everyone, make sure you dress warm. Even though it's bright and sunny out, it's not all that warm.
At the same time, try to dress in layers, so as you ski and work up body temperature, you can shed some layers as appropriate.
Make sure also that you bring good gloves.

Sunglasses will also be a good idea.

The windchill seems to be pretty drastic ... Will it be ok ?

Make sure you dress warm, and have good gloves etc. Aside from that, it's just wind..

I can make the new date. I agree, it's probably not the best day for XC skiing.
