Announcing a new Meetup for The Anti-Social Social (ASS) Club!
What: Ice Skating in July/Brookside Gardens 40th Anniversary Celebration
When: July 19, 2009 12:45 PM
1800 Glenallan Ave
Wheaton, MD 20902
Beautiful Brookside Gardens is turning 40! There will be a celebration this Sunday - see below for all of the happenings! Walter has suggested an event which combines this celebration with ice skating at the Wheaton Ice Rink - Ice Skating? In JULY??? Of course an ASS would!
Check your ego rinkside and get on out there. It will be good for you, especially you Southern folk. It's about time you learned how to skate on ice!
Public skating session on Sunday, July 19th, 2009, from 2:30 p.m. through 4:30 p.m.
About one mile's walk from Brookside Gardens, through the park. (It's somewhat uphill from Brookside Gardens to the Wheaton Ice Arena, and somewhat downhill, the opposite way, of course.) If this is too far for some to walk, it would be possible to drive.
SO - the order of business will be:
Meet in the Brookside Nature Center parking lot (which nearly alway has lots of free parking spaces), located at 1400 Glenallen Avenue, Silver Spring, MD 20902 (http://www.mc-mncppc....) and walk the very short distance to Brookside Gardens,
1 - 1:30 PM:
Free cake and punch! Then stroll through Brookside Gardens and the park to arrive at the ice rink sometime between 2:00 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. for the ice skating session.
If it rains, there's a greenhouse on the grounds of Brookside Gardens, and it would be possible to drive people to the ice rink.
2 - 4:30 PM:
Arrive @ rink, rent skates, skate!
Ice Skating public session admission is $6.25. Ice Skate rental is $3.25.
If anyone shows up, they could decide what to do afterwards.
"Games, Activities & Moon Bounce" continue at Brookside Gardens until 6:00 p.m.
6:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m:
Concert by the Beach Bumz.
"Wings of Fancy" live butterfly and caterpillar exhibit is $6.
Everything else in the park is free (paid for by Walter's tax dollars, that is).
There are lots of restaurants all over Wheaton, should people want to hang around for the evening and head out for snacks/libations.
