Lovesick and desperate young sculptor Brindsley Miller has embellished his apartment with furniture and objects d?arte, borrowed from the absent antique collector next door, hoping to impress both his fiancee?s pompous father and a wealthy art dealer who just might buy his sculptures. When the neighbor unexpectedly returns just as a blown fuse plunges the apartment into darkness, Brindsley is revealed teetering on the verge of very ripe farce. Unexpected guests, aging spinsters, errant phone cords and other snares impede his frantic attempts to return the purloined items before light is restored. ?One of the funniest and most brilliant short plays in the language.? -London Sunday Times
On a double bill with: THE WHITE LIARS
In another short play by Peter Shaffer, Sophie Lemberg is a fortune teller and a baroness of the Holy Roman Empire - or is she? This third-rate eccentric and disillusioned German fortune teller in a third-rate English seaside resort is visited by the lead singer of a rock band and his business manager who both want their fortunes told. Sophie is bribed by the Svengali-like manager who wants her to predict a horrible future for the the rock singer who is getting ?too close? to his girlfriend. Things are not what they seem to be, and their lives turn out to be much stranger than the fiction Sophie tries to create in her magic ball!
You simply can't beat the intimate Sunnyvale Theatre for comfort and convenience. Lots of places to walk and explore and plenty of restaurants nearby.
Members rated the Meetup 4 and 1/2 stars... Here's what Margaret said about the last time we did a Meetup for this show(s) - on Opening Night!
? It was my first time to Sunnyvale Theater. It's a small theater so you can't get a bad seat and very cozy. The staff was very friendly and helpful and it's located in a beautiful area. Of the two plays I enjoyed Black Comedy more but all actors had great energy and could be understood (which isn't always the case). Thank you, Rick, for bringing to light that we can still enjoy good productions locally without always having to drive to SF. I enjoyed the company of the people at dinner as well. All in all, a very enjoyable evening. ?
