Habit for Humanity & Black Doll Affair Dollhouse Build Day 3

  • Nov 16, 2013 · 9:30 AM
  • This location is shown only to members

RSVPs for this Affair are open to Dolls that made a pretty...philanthropic donation towards its historic build!

She has a dream...

Princess Tiana had a dream...

MLK had a dream....

Barbie had a dream ...

Little girls everywhere share Barbie's Dream. Especially little girls who play to escape and dare not dream ...

She has a nightmare...

In poor homes, it's hard to believe, but more children than we care to think about DO NOT have the escape of a private space... until now. The Black Doll Affair & Habitat for Humanity have a dream...to build Playhouses for Baby Dolls in need of a place where they can feel pretty at play!

Friedrich Frobel, in his book The Education of Man, emphasized the importance of symbolism in play. He observed, “play is the highest development in childhood, for it alone is the free expression of what is in the child’s soul…. children’s play is not mere sport. It is full of meaning and import.” (Fröbel, 1903, p. 22). Studies show that children feel safe in their "homes" and even safer in a personal space they call their own - like a playhouse.

Too often, the homes of impoverished children are places for nightmares instead of a haven for Dreams. Luckier little girls may not have a space for dreaming. So, this Black Doll Affair is about creating a playhouse to dream a better future! All while being in a place designed with an African American girl in mind! From her cultural history to her imaginative now and on to her bright future, HELP us change a girl's surroundings & give her an OPPORTUNITY to DREAM about her future and IMAGINE herself as a B'HUETIFULLY SUCCESSFUL black woman!

We need your help! In this partnership!

In celebration of The Black Doll Affair's 6th Birthday, we've teamed with Habitat for Humanity {HUEmanity}to build a dollhouse! Then, choose a school playroom {example: Coretta Scott King Leadership Academy for Girls} or community center playground {example: The Martin Luther King Recreation Center in Atlanta's Old Fourth Ward} in which to donate it!

What if we created a uniquely designed dollhouse that looks like it stepped out of architecture design magazine!?!?

Or a  Pretty-pink & Black Habitat!

Or a dollhouse fit for royalty!

Or, how about a dollhouse built for just being a girl and playing in her world?

Even a pretty princess' castle dollhouse!

Thanks, Porcelain Pal Julie Hopkins, Director of Special Projects for Habitat for Humanity Dekalb.

xoxo - Mama Doll & Julie!

I wish I could have been there to add a smile and to roll sleeves up and help out. Last week as I said previously, I had a getaway weekend with honeyboo at Kiawiah Island SC. This weekend, I am with my daughter supporting her after her surgery. I will be flying to Michigan on Monday and back to Atlanta on Tuesday. Hopefully I will be home for a while to make the next build day.

Happy weekend Dolls! Due to yet another crazy weekend schedule doesn't look like I'll physically make tomorrow's/Sat build. I know I was so 'productive' last weekend -- NOT - except for perhaps a few laughs :-). Same type weekend on deck and got a band gig Saturday evening. I know it will be FAB and FUN!!
