Wrist-warmer knitting workshop and open craft night

Hi everyone! My name is Lark and I'll be the host for our next meetup. Perhaps you have already met me at a previous S'n'B?

I've been asked by a few people to do a double-pointed needle (DPN) knitting workshop for Stitch 'n' Bitch. Since Stina is out of town for our next gathering and she needed a meetup host, I thought it would be a great opportunity for me to host and to teach the workshop.

*Please post in the comments if you are interested in participating in the workshop so I know approximately how many to expect*

If you just want to hang out and work on other stuff, that's cool too!

For the workshop, we are going to make the ultimate fall accessory: wrist warmers!

------

We're going to be making the Voodoo wrist warmers from Knitty.com

http://www.knitty.com/ISSUEwinter02/PATTvoodoo.html

These are very straight forward and perfect for the beginning knitter, or someone who doesn't have any experience with DPNs.

Materials

Please bring the following materials for the workshop. For shopping, I recommend Litet Nystan at Sankt Paulsgatan 20, Södermalm or Ljungqvist's Garn at Karlbergsvägen 10, Odenplan and other locations.

If you have any questions, please post in the comments!

- 3.50mm double pointed needles (I personally prefer wood) or whatever size matches the recommended needle size of your yarn.

- 100g yarn in color of your choice. Needs to create a gauge of 20 - 22 stitches/10cm (check the yarn package or ask someone in the store to help pick one). In UK/US this is called Worsted/DK.

Thanks for the fantastic, friendly knitting-fest tonight everyone! I hope you all had a delightful cozy time. See you in a few weeks!

(And if your wrist warmers don't develop as you'd like, please bring them next time and we can help each other fix them up.)

How do you tell if a yarn is DK (or Aran-weight, or whatever weight) in Sweden, as they don't use the names? I've just been looking the yarn up on Ravelry before buying, but I'm assuming the Swedes do have their own system.... right? :)

Also, the needle size on the yarn package should match 3.5mm. There is usually a range listed on the package as well.

It's an open craft night, so you can work on whatever you want. There is also a workshop happening at the same time, and you are welcome to participate if you want to. You can definitely get help with getting started : )

Gemma, you can learn to knit with us if you'd like. I'm sure the more experienced folks would be happy to teach you. This workshop is for beginners, so you are welcome to participate. No pressure of course : ) See you tomorrow!

      October 13, 2013

    • Gemma Zoe J.

Aw, thanks so much! :D But I think I shall have to pass on learning to knit as I have so many other crafty hobbies, if I add one more, the universe (and my bank balance) will implode! ;)

Does KAL mean "knit along"? I'm intrigued.

Knit a long - it's a group on Ravelry where we're working through the patterns in Socks from the Toe-Up: http://www.ravelry.co... I'm enjoying having a monthly sock - means I actually finish stuff and I get a challenge. :)

Just a reminder for those attending the workshop to please post in the comments if you plan on attending, and don't forget to bring the needles and yarn listed in the description.

Excited to hang out with all of you on Monday :)

I changed the needle size in the workshop to 3.5mm since 3.75mm is impossible to find in Sweden. Or so I was told today at Litet Nystan.

Sounds like a good idea. The project will take longer than the workshop to complete, so come with whatever you have and you'll get to finish them at home.

We need a "maybe"-option. I'm signing up so I don't forget about it! But not taking part in the work shop in any case.
