Hey Disruptistas!
Come on down to get acquainted with some of St. Louis' most innovative people. If you're interested in Education, Technology, Entrepreneurship, Making or Design, you'll enjoy having a couple of pints with like-minded folks.
Two things to note:
- Some people in the group have been reading "Makers" by Chris Anderson (former editor of Wired Magazine) this month. It's a brilliant primer on the world of desktop design and manufacturing, and provides a bunch of cues into how we can provide the tools to students to learn, create and share. If you want the book, you can get it at either of the Left Bank Books locations for 20% off all month. If minimum, it'll be a tremendous ice-breaker. At most, it will transform your thinking as much as it has ours.
- Additionally, each "Drinking Disruptively" features our UPS day, where members will "ship" the proof of what they've been learning all month. I've been working on an internet-connected cookie jar, Andrew has been learning to snare drum for a marching band, Allie has been crocheting a scarf, Brad has been rolling sushi, and Ted is going to be a Vegetarian for the month! It's a fantastic learning experience, and allows us to collect stories of dilettantism to share with students embarking on the path of lifelong learning. If you want to partake (and I think you should), head over to the forums and check out what we're doing. If you'd like to sit this month out, take a bit of time to encourage your fellows disruptors by commenting on the forum. Each member will share their learning at our little event.
P.S. When you get to Cafe Ventana, and you want to purchase something at the counter, tell them you're with the Disruption Department. We get credit towards our booking fee this way : )
