Almost Halloween paddle

Come join us as we do a leisurely exploration of Split Rock resevoir. We will make a loop of the lake, stopping to eat lunch on one of the many islands.

The weather is turning colder, please dress appropriately for cold weather paddling (no cotton, mutliple layers, etc). A drysuit or wetsuit works best. Bring a dry bag with a set of dry clothes, and bring it in the boat with you. With a longer trip like this you will be very cold and miserable if you fall in halfway through. This paddle will be held rain or shine.

Skill Level: Beginner

Boat lenght: 12 ft+

Time: 5-6 hrs

Distance: 8 miles

Be Sure to Bring:

Boat, Paddle, PFD, Lunch, Water, Camera, Towel, Dry Clothes, Pump,

PFD's are required and must be worn at all times on the water!!!

I want to thank Ed for creating a DVK trip to Splitrock when we thought GSK was defunct - then keeping the GSK trip to Splitrock open when the group was brought back. Only a few showed between the 2 groups, but it made the trip closer knit. It was a beautiful show of colors and memorable trip. Great job Ed.

I want to thank Ed for keeping the GSK trip going at Splitrock and organizing a Splitrock trip through DVK when we all thought GSK was defunct. Between the two groups, only a handful showed, but it made for a closer knit event. Great job Ed. The trip was beautiful and memorable.

Here is a link to some of the pictures that I took during Thursday's paddle at Splitrock:

I was up at Splitrock yesterday (Thurs), and the one outhouse that they have was locked with a sign on the door saying “Closed for Repairs”. :^(

The leaves are a bit past their peak, but there is still plenty of nice color left.

And; be sure to dress for all possible conditions. The forecast for yesterday was partly sunny, with a zero percent chance of rain, and 7-10mph winds. When I arrived at 11am, it was nice and sunny, and after a few minutes of paddling I was peeling off layers. Around 2:30pm, the dark clouds rolled in, the wind kicked up to probably 15-20mph, there were white caps and standing waves, and it started to rain. The rain turned to sleet, and then for a very brief time to HAIL ! Pretty bizarre.

So; regardless of what they predict…. hope for the best; but be prepared for the worst.

Just found out that I will have tomorrow (Thurs) off from work, so will be heading up to Split Rock then. Giving up my spot for Saturday, so that someone on the waiting list can go in my place.

Don't go swimming! Will miss you. Enjoy the colors - I was just there last weekend hiking and it's beautiful. Hopefully I'll get out with you and Sue before it gets to ccccold!
