If you want to join us, but not able to make something you can come, donakt worry about that. Also fresh fruit is always a default raw treat. Eating raw doesn't have to be fancy. You can also check your local organic/health food store and find a few pre-packaged raw treats like kale chips, ginger snaps/cookies and even raw ice cream. Join us if you can and DON'T feel intimidated for any reason. Look forward to seeing you tomorrow.

Exactly! In fact, simple, fresh, ripe whole fruits and veggies generally digest better than a lot of the heavier raw "gourmet" recipes, so everyone leaves the potluck feeling nourished and not weighed down! LOL That said, the gourmet stuff is fun, too!

I forgot to ask about this before I RSVPed. I'll have my daughter with me this weekend. Is this a family friendly event?

    1 · November 23, 2012

      November 23, 2012

Hi Anjela! My husband and i are also want to join your raw food group this Saturday. We are planning to bring a raw Key Lime pie and napkins. We are new to the raw food society in DC, so we are so excited to meet with all of you!

I will bring some type of raw stuffing... haven't decided quite yet what kind/type. Can't wait to (re)meet everyone. :)

I will bring raw brownies. I hope the full array of dishes will be varied and plentiful, given that I must travel from Owings Mills to Greenbelt and I'm on my own on Thanksgiving day. There's no raw vegan Thanksgiving potluck today of which I know within a 100-mile radius of my home, so this Saturday potluck is the only possible semblance of a Thanksgiving celebration I'm likely to find anywhere this year.

We're planning on coming down from Hagerstown with our three kids. Not sure how long we'll be able to stay, but we're up for a drive and wanted to connect with others interested in raw foods. I've been eating a raw diet for several years, but there's not much of a community for it out our way. So, I was going to make chia pudding and kale salad, but I see someone already added those items. I'll see if I can give them a different twist, or come up with something else. Nonetheless, we'll be there with a couple dishes. :-)

I would like to attend, however, I am new to raw and not very good with preparing food, especially raw. Can I attend just to get an idea what the group is about? I can bring napkins, plates, bowls and cups.

    2 · November 23, 2012

    • Angela

      Sure can Vivian!!!

Thinking a veggie salad and it can be with or without cold pressed virgin olive oil, so want to ask about that?

    1 · November 22, 2012

    • Peter

I'm new too, and asking the same question as you.

      1 · November 23, 2012

It can be raw depending on the company that made it, but not all EVOO is raw. Here is a good article to read http://vegetarian.abo...

Hi JoyAnn no worries, don't be intimidated. Thanks for bringing utensils! We are all at stages on the journey. I am not yet a strict raw vegan, but on my way. That's why I started the group to get the encouragement from others and learn more. Fresh fruit is raw, can't go wrong with a fruit salad :-). Look forward to meeting you!

I'm new to raw foods and a little intimidated about what is truly acceptable as "raw". I definitely would like to prepare something but maybe I should opt to do the safe thing and bring plates and utensils. I'll research some recipes! But put me down for plates and utensils.

Is this at the Petworth Library, and is there a list of what is needed to bring at this point?

    1 · November 20, 2012

    • Angela

Hi Peter, we need everything as of today. I will post a reminder tomorrow for everyone to post what they are bringing. Feel free to post what you can bring. (Raw Vegan Dish, Drink, Dessert, Utensils, Cups, Napkins, etc). Thanks!

Please note the time is not set. Actually would like to start earlier. Trying to find a free location so we wont have to charge for this event. If anyoone has a home, office or church/community space they can volunteer please let us know.

  • Tara

Did we decide on a date and location for this yet? Hoping we can make it, and want to get it on the calendar before something else gets planned! I'd offer to host, but I'm out in Hagerstown. Hope we can organize something soon! :-)

    November 6, 2012

    • Tara

The 24th works for us. What about local churches? They're often cheap or free and have nice dining and kitchen space. Maybe suggest the event on the Northern VA raw group, too, and someone will offer up space or have a suggestion. :-) Oh, and would this be a kid-friendly event?

      November 7, 2012

    • Angela

Great idea Tara! Yes definitely kid friendly.
