"Wisdom in Bali" Artist Reception

The focus of the photographs in this exhibit is "reverence" as seen in
the people of Bali and their practices. Bali, the only Hindu island in
the Indonesian archipelago, is known for its dedication to the arts,
rituals, and ceremonies, which weave the generations and culture
together in tradition, much like the textiles that are part of Bali’s

In her visit to Bali, Judy was struck by how the sacred and the
everyday are closely integrated. The photographs reveal how the
sweeping of the temple steps and everyday offerings are as carefully
and gracefully done as the rituals performed inside the temples. There is a
legacy of wisdom and respect in living on a volcanic island, and in
understanding the human spirit.

Judy Sirota Rosenthal is a multifaceted artist whose documentary
and event photography work allows us to witness the essence and
spirit of many events and organizations around New Haven, among
them the International Festival of Arts and ideas, Site Projects, the
Foote and Neighborhood Music Schools, the City of New Haven and
The Clifford Beers Clinic. Her work in other disciplines has been seen
in numerous museums around the country.
