Alex Mercedes, MA is an artist educator, with an emphasis on music and improvisational theater. She is a classically trained pianist and folk guitarist, The performative and theatrical aspects of her work derive from Interplay and Action Theater (which she studied with Cynthia Winton-Henry and Ruth Zaporah, respectively), and Augosto Boal.
She first came to New Orleans two months after the Federal Levee failure of 2005 as a volunteer with Common Ground Relief. Alex has a deep affection for the city of New Orleans. Although economic stress compels her to relocate, she hopes with all her heart to return some day to her "new hometown."

We are a collection of drumming enthusiasts in New Orleans. Some of us are weathered drummers, while others are novices. We all meet twice a month, once on third Wednesday at the White Buffalo on Willow & Leonidas, to share what we know, have fun, and find a unified rhythm with each other. Those with a background in other musical types (or those who practice arts that complement drum music) are welcome as well. This group is open to every spiritual faith.
