Paddle on Big and Little Walnut

I want to incorporate a little bit of both worlds with this paddle that will start at Ruffner's Park in Galena, and head south down the Big Walnut, across the Mud Flats at Hoover and then paddle up the Little Walnut to Route 3C.

This will be a great paddle for beginners, so don't hesitate to join us.

What to bring:

1. Lunch
2. Water
3. Proper PDF
4. Sunscreen

My first paddle was such a great experience...thanks to all of you and especially Bob S. The only Bob S. I can't wait to be on the water again. The obsession has begun and I'm hoping to learn more and acquire more skills. It couldn't have been a better start.

Sorry if you all were waiting for us. I did not RSVP because I figured we would be way too late....but glad we were able to catch up to you all. Had to get some chores done b 4 the rain so missed out on the drink too, but next time for sure.

Awesome day! I did find a nut in my kayak when I unloaded it at home. Here's today's trip http://www.trimbleoutdoors.com/ViewTrip/2701938

Looks like the close parking spot is closed off. Might have to park on the other side of the ball field and drag.

Looks like you're not going this far down, but FYI: Gahanna residents have been ordered to stay out of the Big Walnut Creek. http://www.10tv.com/content/stories/2014/06/25/Gahanna_Creek_Warning.html

Oh OK - Thanks for clarifying. I haven't signed up for any paddles yet, as I am a beginner (and old) because they seemed too long for me. I'm going to plan on joining you :)

Hi Gail, it's not a 4 hour paddle. I try to include from the time we meet, put-in, take out, etc... That gives people ample time to set aside. The actual paddling would only be approx. 2.5 hours if that.

I would love to try this, but I don't think I can paddle for four hours. Is there another place to take out - maybe 2-2.5 hours into it?

Sounds good. My son and I will be kayaking at Alum Creek on Thursday evening. So, hopefully, he doesn't get burnt out on being in the water. He's been on the Hocking river once and enjoyed that. He appears to just enjoy the river by letting the current carry him. It'll be nice to explore some place new. Thanks.

Hi Mike, I scheduled this trip so that the "newbies" could get out and paddle with us, so no worries. The place where we'll be paddling (weather permitting) is shaped somewhat like a horseshoe and that we can start at one end and paddle to the other with a short 3 block hike back to the cars. We'll pick up the cars and drive the 3 blocks back to pick up the kayaks; making it an easy run. :)

  • Mike M.

Please pardon what may seem like a dumb question from a newbie; but will we be using some of the vehicles to shuttle back from our exit point to the entry point?

    June 24

  • Bob F.

Sorry, I probably will have to skip unless we could start a little earlier. I forgot about a family event mid afternoon.

    Have fun guys!
