Paddle and Camp on the Kokosing, Mohican and Clear Fork Rivers

Since the 3rd was cancelled I've been trying to replace the paddle with something that everyone could partake in at their discretion. Some of you may have seen that the ODNR is encouraging paddlers to visit approximately 20 rivers and water trails throughout the state between June 21 and Oct 31st. Anyone who paddles at least 4 of these rivers will receive an enamel pin for doing so. Here's how it works: On Paper you can submit all 4 of your trip reports at once using this form:

Get Your Pin: http://paddle.ohiodnr.gov/getyourpin

Fill out the form and mail it to us by November 1 to get your pin.

What If I Paddle More Than Four?

You can receive up to 5 pins for paddling all the different scenic rivers and water trails. Submit a new form for every 4 trips. (If you are using the online form, try to keep your name/phone/email consistent so we can match up all your trips. We will keep track of your trips and will send your pins when appropriate.) When you've done 20 waterways, you'll not only have your 5 pins to show for it, but you'll also receive a signed certificate from the Chief of the Division of Watercraft.

This trip will knock 2 of the first 4 required to obtain your first pin.

We'll be camping at Rainbow Springs Campgrounds just south of Loudenville: http://www.rainbowspringscamp.com/

This is a very quiet clean campgrounds that I use to take my kids to when we would paddle the Mohican. Great fishing in their private pond. My son Dom caught a 6.2 lb large mouth there several years back of which is just one of the many "monsters" swimming within the pond. We plan on camping Friday night and then paddling either the Kokosing or the Mohican Saturday. We'll camp again Saturday night and paddle whichever river we didn't Sat, on Sunday.

As with any of our trips, this is ale-cart and you can pick and choose which you wish to partake. However, if you are camping you'll need to call a head and make reservations. It's $17.50 per night per person. A little expensive, but considering it's local and ammensities; well worth it.

Friday was a nice river ride. Saturday I got left behind, nobody missed me!? I thought we were still waiting for people to arrive, then I saw Patty drive away and I looked around and everyone was gone. I still had a great day!

A few of us plan on going up early tomorrow in hopes of running the Clear Fork from the dam down to the Mohican late afternoon. If this sounds like something you'd like to do; be at the campgrounds 3.

    July 3, 2014

    • Sami

If the water levels stay as they are, I'd like to run the Clear Fork out of Bellville to Newville. If not we still have the Black Fork and the Mohican if all else fails. :)

Okay, I've spoken to Janene at the campgrounds and we're all set for up to 20 people. If we see it will be more that that; we just need to let her know by Thursday. She has the group name and my name, so they will not be an issue with getting a site. 2 tents per site of $17.50 per person per site.
