Monday mobbing

  • March 25, 2013 · 7:00 PM

Hi Lovely people,

it's the last Monday of the month (yay!) so why not join us for a wander around Central London, along one of our regular routes?  On the way we'll be meeting and chatting to our street friends, giving out socks, blankets and other stuff while getting to know any newcomers, both mobbing and on the street.   After an hour or so we'll retire to a local pub for a drink and a chat.

The Sock Mob will start at 7pm - the areas we'd like to cover are:

Old Street - Meet by the bottom of exit 2 in front of the bank of phones

Strand - meet by McDonald's just along from Charing Cross tube on the Strand

Waterloo - meet outside McDonald's on the lowest level of the station concourse i.e. the Waterloo Road level

Victoria - meet outside the large WH Smiths opposite the flower stall in the centre of the station concourse

Piccadilly - Meet outside Boots at Piccadilly Circus

Please state your preferred area when you select 'I'm going', and if possible, which 2 areas (in case we don't have enough sign ups for one of your choices) you'd prefer to go to and I'll do my best to put you in your preferred area. Feel free to suggest other areas as well as those listed!

A couple of FAQs:

Do I need to bring anything with me?
An open mind & a willingness to chat to the homeless people we meet along the way is all that's required; however, items such as food, books, toiletries and warm clothing are always appreciated.  If you bring food, please avoid 'hard' foods, like apples, as many of our street friends have dental problems that mean they can only manage softer items.

Can I choose which area I go to?
Sure - please mention when you select 'I'm going' which 2 areas you'd prefer to go to and I'll do my best to put you in your preferred area.

I've never done this before...
No worries: mention in the comment box that appears when you select 'I'm going' that you're new to The Sock mob. However, there is always an experienced walk leader/organiser on each route, along with regular mobbers, so there will always be someone who knows the people and the route!  New mobbers are welcome to email any of the organisers with any questions or you can call me on[masked]with any questions you may have.

For further information about the Sock Mob click on the pages tab above for more FAQs.

I'll post details of who is where & the pub details closer to the day.

I'd just like to say a big 'Thank You' to Sophie and Jac Envision and their students for coming along last night and taking part, as well as seeing what mobbing is all about. The students were brilliant, and any of you will be more than welcome as a Sock Mob member if you would like to join up. I hope you found your time with us interesting and thought-provoking.

As always, many thanks for all those who RSVP'd, including those who changed them to 'No' instead of leaving your fellow members waiting in vain. Have a great week all, and a happy Easter to them what celebrates!

The pub afterwards will be The Clarence. Walk Leaders, please post your mobile numbers for your walkers. PLEASE, PLEASE, if you are no longer attending, remove your RSVP and text/phone/send carrier pigeon to your walk leader and let them know. If you are running late, please let your walk leader know as soon as possible, otherwise it may be assumed you're not coming. Have a good mobbing and take care :o)

    Hi Folks,
first of all, at first glance, the groups look a little larger than usual; this is because we are being joined by some students from the Hampstead branch of Envision, of which Sam is a member (those of you who know our lovely Kierra will no doubt have heard of them before). They asked if they could come along as see what we were all about, and I know our established members will look after them! As I understand it, they will only be accompanying us for an hour (unless we finish earlier), which is why I've only selected 3 routes, so none are left with too few remaining walkers when they leave.

So without further rambling, the who's where for mobbing is as follows:

    Victoria:

    Maggie

    Sophie (plus some students)

    Robert Shepherd

    Kat

    Lucie

    Waterloo:

    Sam (plus some students)

    Lesley Dove

    Alys

    Daniela Gomez + 1

    Strand:

    Robert (plus Doug!)

    Jac Envision (plus students)

    Robert Thorne

    Richard Pickles + 1

    Rebecca + 1

Hi, Monday will be my first time out. Victoria would be best for me, but the Strand and Waterloo would be fine as well!
