Thursday Socks

Come on you sockmobbers... join us for an urban walk in Central London: along the way we'll be meeting and chatting to our street friends, giving out socks, blankets and other stuff and generally shootin' the breeze...  After an hour or so we'll retire to a local pub for a drink and a chat.

The sockmob will be kicking off as per usual at 7pm - the areas we'd like to cover are:

Strand - meet by McDonald's just along from Charing Cross tube on the Strand
Waterloo - meet outside McDonald's on the lower level of the station concourse
Victoria - meet outside the large WH Smiths opposite the flower stall in the centre of the station concourse
Piccadilly - Meet outside Boots at Piccadilly Circus

Please mention when you select 'I'm going' which area(s) you'd prefer to go to and I'll do my best to put you in your preferred area.

A couple of FAQs:

Do I need to bring anything with me?
An open mind & a willingness to chat to the homeless people we meet along the way is all that's required; however, items such as food, books, toiletries and warm clothing are always appreciated...

Can I choose which area I go to?
Sure - please mention when you select 'I'm going' which area(s) you'd prefer to go to and I'll do my best to put you in your preferred area.

I've never done this before...
No worries: mention in the comment box that appears when you select 'I'm going' that you're new to Sockmob & you'll be put with an experienced mobber. New mobbers are welcome to email any of the organisers with any questions or you can call me on[masked] with any questions you may have.

For further information about the Sock Mob click on the pages tab above for more FAQs.

I'll post details of who is where & the pub details closer to the day.

Um, I posted a message earlier saying Ive got lots of soap and socks to give away, but I work 3-11pm every tuesday and thursday.
Also I work in a bakery, and on Tuesdays and Thursdays I could pottentailly give away a lot of sandwiches at 11pm in Islington-if someone can sneakily come and collect them.
Im allowed to tke them home but not really to give to homeless, but if someone can get them from me on Upper Street in Islington, I could potentially feed lots of people. Can anyone help me make a plan?

Hi J I think it will be best if Tom collects socks etc and we can see how food pans out once we find a mobber in the area.

Ok sweet. I'm off to work now..I can bring the socks etc into work next Tuesday? Sorry I can't just turn up to the mobbing tonight with a big bag! I'm gonna collect a few more socks, so if someone can collect from euphonium anytime 3-10pm next Tuesday we can do that?

Hi, thanks for the replies about food, I can't take the food home with me, so it's not an option to collect it any other time than[masked] Tuesday and Thursday. Sorry I can't be more helpful than that! Basically what happens is I put the food in a bag, put the bag out on the street and then someone picks it up immediately and takes it. I have to throw it out, except for one or two things I'm allowed to take home for me. I throw away bags full of 10 hour old food basically because we're not allowed to give it to homeless. But if I put it out, and someone picks it up, at an arranged time, then we don't have to waste all that food!! There are lots of homeless in islington too.

I work at euphonium bakery on upper steet islington, if someone comes at 10.20pm and says they are from the sock mob, I can give them a big bag of food. I can't take the food home however.
