Relative newcomer (brought to you by the owners of Acqua Al 2 in Eastern Market) to the exploding 14th St NW dining scene getting great initial reviews and my thumbs-up for what their mission is.

One of the best gourmet pizza programs in town, a good mix of small and large plates (nice in-house pastas here), and good cocktails & wines. I've eaten here quite a few times (nice Happy Hour deals at the bar!) and really like the place. I'm taking you to Ghibellina for a early Sunday dinner to explore this menu.

FOOD: Chef Jonathan Copeland leads the kitchen with a strong pedigree (6+ years at Palena, and stints at Society Fair, Spotted Pig in Manhattan and Franny’s in Brooklyn).

Seriously, consider giving the pizza a try (fan of the Olive e Carciofi - nostraliana olives, artichokes, sundried tomatoes, smoked mozzarella, basil, garlic & pepperoncino). Not 100% Neapolitan but an homage to with an added emphasis on crispier. Just don't assume that the pie will be served pre-sliced, they provide you giant shears to cut your own slices.

And consider at least a small plate (note: at here they're typically larger than tapas size, moreso mezze) of pasta / meat / fish for your starter. Not sure if this will be on the menu when we come, but loved the Pumpkin & Ricotta-Filled pasta (w/ balsamic brown butter, sage, and crushed amaretti cookies on top) ... delish. As with small plates emphasis, you can also entertain a mix 'n match of small plates to make you meal. But there's larger secondi (more entrée-sized) dishes as well.

--> Checkout a recent Dinner Menu (fall-oriented dishes are slowly being added)

SPACE: The owner describes it as "an Italian bar meets an industrial building" ... crafted from old wood, original brick and chairs plucked from an Italian school. He's right lol. Nice looking space.

==> Tax/Tip combo is our required 30% tax/tip policy ( see the FAQs for more details)
==> Limited to 18 slots

See you there!

CLOSEST METRODupont Circle [Red Line]. U Street / Cardozo (Yellow / Green Lines). About 6 - 7 blocks from both metro stations, nice brisk walk.

For directions using the Metro, try using the Trip Planner at the WMATA website.

Parking: NO VALET parking on Sundays. so those driving you have metered street parking on 14th (FREE SUNDAYS), else finding neighborhood parking nearby.

Another reason to come early to find parking, and take advantage of the Sunday HH bar deal ;-)

Need to Contact the Restaurant? [i.e. confirm location, notify to the group if running late, etc.]. Text on your phone to 466453 (GOOGLE) and type the restaurant name + the city/state in the message body. Google Business Services will text you back with the address and phone #!

1. Limited to 18 slots.

2. If you RSVP "YES" please make sure you can definitely make it. With 3,900+ members and limited seating, we cannot afford no-shows. It's unfair to the other members who would like to attend and also to the organizers who have to explain to the restaurant why the reserved # of guests didn't show (can damage our reputation). No-Show rules apply.

3. Event already full?, waitlist for the event!. Use the Waitlist option (the Organizer for each event will enable this as needed). Also, check back regularly as attendees have been known to cancel up to Noon the day of the event.

4. Billing (add 30% tax/tip to your bill). Remember, include the required 30% for tip / tax in addition to the food / beverages you order as defined in our FAQs.

5. NEW MEMBERS or 1st TIME EVENT GO-ERS, if you have questions about the group, RSVPs, or the overall dining event process, visit our FAQs and our No-Show Policy.

What a very pleasant way to spend a Sunday evening-- enjoyed the conversations and the food, especially the cacciucco. Many thanks, Joe, for trying Ghibellina N times to make sure that we have a great dining experience :)

WAITLISTERS: Please respond ASAP when I email you. It's likely the only way to be considered for any opening spots.

Unfortunately I will have to give-up my spot for this event since I have a conflict now with a tennis tournament match that I'm playing in tonight. Bummer for me but glad that a 'waitlisted' person can now attend. Enjoy everyone!

Sorry to hear, but thanks to releasing the spot with more than enough time :-)
