ALL THAT RSVP:

--> STATE YOUR PLANNED ARRIVAL TIME. Please add a comment with your 'best guesstimate' for time arrival. (i.e. we don't want to overload the bar area too badly)

--> YOU CAN COME BETWEEN 5pm and 6:30pm (well, that's when the HH deals end, you can come later if you'd like but the event ends at 7)

=================

You're not working THAT hard the week between X-Mas & New Years, right? Come!

We had a good time doing a 'Holiday Social' last year, so let's head back to one of my favorite restaurants, where really flavorful food & tasty (ahem) beverage selections are plentiful. We're going back to Ghibellina restaurant, this time for an extended (5-7 pm) Holiday Social / Happy Hour!

Relative newcomer (brought to you by the owners of Acqua Al 2 in Eastern Market) to the exploding 14th St NW dining scene getting great initial reviews and my thumbs-up for what their mission is.

FOOD: Chef Jonathan Copeland leads the kitchen with a strong pedigree (6+ years at Palena, and stints at Society Fair, Spotted Pig in Manhattan and Franny’s in Brooklyn).

They call themselves an Italian Gastropub, focused on a mix of high-quality pizza (might be the best pizza in DC for some), mezze portioned (larger than tapas) and traditional entree dishes.

-------------

Happy Hour Deal (4:30 - 6:30pm)

• 1/2 off most pizzas, $5 select wine (typically a mix of 5 red or white), $3.50 - $4 bottled beers and $6 select cocktails (about 4)

• DEAL IS AT THE BAR ONLY (note if you decide to sit at one of the regular dining tables you won't get HH pricing)

-------------

Nice Happy Hour program here (the majority of their configured pizzas are nearly 50% off), so consider giving the pizza a try. I'm a fan especially a fan of the Olive e Carciofi -nostraliana olives, artichokes, sundried tomatoes, smoked mozzarella, basil, garlic & pepperoncino (winnah for happy hour for $9ish). Not 100% Neapolitan but an homage to with an added emphasis on crispier. Just don't assume that the pie will be served pre-sliced, they provide you giant shears to cut your own slices.

Hint - split multiple pies to try several flavors out, so maybe bring some cash ;-)

And consider a small plate (note: at here they're typically larger than tapas size, moreso mezze) of pasta / meat / fish. Love the Pumpkin & Ricotta-Filled pasta (w/ balsamic brown butter, sage, and crushed amaretti cookies on top) and the filling Stracotto (pot roast)... delish.

--> Checkout a recent Dinner Menu (so you can see small ll plates and pizza selections)

SPACE: The owner describes it as "an Italian bar meets an industrial building" ... crafted from old wood, original brick and chairs plucked from an Italian school. He's right lol. Nice looking space.

==> Tax/Tip combo is our required 30% tax/tip policy (see the FAQs for more details)
==> Limited to 40 slots

See you there!

CLOSEST METRO: Dupont Circle [Red Line]. U Street / Cardozo (Yellow / Green Lines). About 6 - 7 blocks from both metro stations, nice brisk walk.

For directions using the Metro, try using the Trip Planner at the WMATA website.

Parking: VALET parking is available. For those driving you have metered street parking on 14th (watch hours!), else finding neighborhood parking nearby.

Need to Contact the Restaurant? [i.e. confirm location, notify to the group if running late, etc.]. Text on your phone to[masked] (GOOGLE) and type the restaurant name + the city/state in the message body. Google Business Services will text you back with the address and phone #!

************************************

1. Limited to 40 slots.

2. If you RSVP "YES" please make sure you can definitely make it. With 3,900+ members and limited seating, we cannot afford no-shows. It's unfair to the other members who would like to attend and also to the organizers who have to explain to the restaurant why the reserved # of guests didn't show (can damage our reputation). No-Show rules apply.

3. Event already full?, waitlist for the event!. Use the Waitlist option (the Organizer for each event will enable this as needed). Also, check back regularly as attendees have been known to cancel up to Noon the day of the event.

4. Billing (add 30% tax/tip to your bill). Remember, include the required 30% for tip / tax in addition to the food / beverages you order as defined in our FAQs.

5. NEW MEMBERS or 1st TIME EVENT GO-ERS, if you have questions about the group, RSVPs, or the overall dining event process, visit our FAQs and our No-Show Policy.

    Thanks everyone that came! Great extended Social. Ghibellina was nice to provide a huge chunk of the bar area for us, giving up plenty of space to shoot and move around easily. Very friendly crowd, I'd say 70% attended their 1st event with us, which was awesome to see. Good food and nice specials. Easy event to lead. Happy Holidays folks!

    RSVPs will open sometime after X-Mas. Too far in advanced that I'm sure folks' holiday agenda may change at least a few times from now. So I'm opening closer to the actual date ;-)
