Wanting to give the MD folks some love lol, so introducing the group to good local Italian at Assaggi Mozzarella Bar.

  • Ranked #90: 2010's Washingtonian Magazine's 100 Best Restaurants

FOOD: Modern Italian. Assaggi in Italian generally means to 'taste / sample / try'. There's definitely pockets of tastiness throughout the menu.

For starters give the mini 'Assaggini' items a try. Recently tried the Arancini (baked risotto with veal ragu, green peas, buffalo mozzarella, parmesan) which was rich and scarfed down quickly; nice value at $6. Assaggi is also known for their high-end Mozzarella 'bar', which is offered a la carte or in a 3-cheese tasting (you'll pay for that though lol).

For entrees I really prefer the in-house Pasta here. A nice option is to request if the pasta is available as a 1/2 portion which opens up meal options (i.e. consider a 1/2 portion as a Starter, or mix two different 1/2 portions for a mini-pasta-tasting entree). Just some pics of pastas I recently tried to gaze on: pic 1, pic 2. There's non-pastas on the menu as well (i.e. you'll find a Steak, etc), and it's typically Fish-heavy. If you have room for dessert, consider the Zeppole (Italian doughnuts with cold sabayon sauce) ... love this.

Prices are reasonable. Starters in the Assaggini are well under $10. Pastas generally are in the upper-teens, with non-pasta entrees & nightly specials into the $20s - $30s.

==> Check a recent dinner menu from Assaggi (note menu items do change based on ingredient availability)

SPACE: Nice casual space overall, fits within Bethesda ;)

Visit Assaggi's website for more information.

==> Tax/Tip combo is our standard 30% [see the FAQs for more details]
==> No Guests [have your friends join, it's free!]
==> Limited to 20 slots

See you there!

  • Bethesda [Red Line]. Assaggi is only a few blocks walk from the metro on 'Bethesda Row'.

For directions using the Metro, try using the Trip Planner at the WMATA website.

PARKING: There's on-street metered parking & County-owned garages (Here's the closest) which are free on Sunday!

1. Limited to 20 slots.

2. If you RSVP "YES" please make sure you can definitely make it. With 3,000+ members and limited seating, we cannot afford no-shows. It's unfair to the other members who would like to attend and also to the organizers who have to explain to the restaurant why the reserved # of guests didn't show (can damage our reputation). No-Show rules apply.

3. Event already full?, waitlist for the event!. Use the Waitlist option (the Organizer for each event will enable this as needed). Also, check back regularly as attendees have been known to cancel up to Noon the day of the event.

4. Billing (add 30% tax/tip to your bill). Remember, include the required 30% for tip / tax in addition to the food / beverages you order as defined in our FAQs.

5. NEW MEMBERS or 1st TIME EVENT GO-ERS, if you have questions about the group, RSVPs, or the overall dining event process, visit our FAQs and our No-Show Policy.

Great meetup! I thought the pasta and company were both wonderful, and I liked the early Sunday eve time.

Thanks everyone for coming & braving the packed parking garages and filled streets with hungry, powerless folks lol. Nice way to end a strange weekend. A # of new folks, some sharing of 'tastes' (tasty $6 Arancini!), and most-importantly Air Conditioning! haha.
