Pinterest: The New Kid on the Block

A session for those who love, hate, or “just don’t get” Pinterest.

Pinterest is the new social media platform taking the world by storm... but you already knew that. The site, while having been around for two years to date, has exploded in usage since December 2011.

Pinterest is one of the first and fastest growing sites that uses imagery and social momentum to drive traffic and shape consumer behaviour. Sarah Baker will show you how Pinterest is being used by people and brands, how you can use it, and how it’s changing the online and consumer world as we know it.

You might know Sarah from on-screen video feeds at community fundraisers, such as YYC4HAITI and YYC4SLAVELAKE. Sarah has been active in the Calgary social media community since 2009. She is also the Marketing and New Media Manager at The Mustard Seed and has professional experience in social media, community engagement, event planning, fundraising, promotions and marketing. Approaching her work with distinct creativity and passion for innovation, her responsibilities have included building an integrated social media presence from the ground-up, launching an urban apparel line and planning several large-scale events.

Very well designed and researched presentation. Informative even if you were already ON Pinterest.

Really disappointed that I couldn't make it. Love Pinterest and have been using it for the Alberta Election. See my pinboard here:

    Ha! Hi Amanda!
Really great night. Sarah, you did a great job; love your deadpan, hilarious sense of humour. Looking forward to future thirds.

Thank you for your presentation - you made it delightful, especially for a guy who had no idea this even existed! Your energy and entusiasm made its way throughout the room! You're a great speaker and obviously a very treasured asset of all the other organizations you participate in as well. Thank goodness for people like you who do this kind of work - I may even become interested in helping them out if you represent the quality of people they attract.

How this group continues to find such great topics and speakers I have no idea - but you organizers are right on the money. I joined this group to get a different than a business/accounting perspective on life and I am getting a great "free" education on how other people communicate with the world. Doug

Fantastic presentation! I have been a bleeding edge user of Pinterest since the beginning but have not explored the finer details of this service. Sarah was the perfect speaker on this subject. I learned a great deal of things and loved how personable her talk was. I consider Sarah to be an authority on Pinterest!

Very interesting topic....I think I'll at least go further to the site and check it out and think how I can incorporate it into my tactical tool box. What was really great was meeting up with friends and enjoying a beer AND a very engaging speaker. Well done.

Content was good but how to apply to a local business was missing. For many businesses, the current mix of users suggests traffic generated will be of marginal value.

Yes it was good, well presented. I thought it could have gone into a bit more details with how Businesses can benefit.

Good point. I hope we cover this to. Finding and app on an iPhone is easy but one for iPad is not so easy.
