Are you struggling with how to measure the impact and value of social media in your company or organization? You're not alone if you are.

This month`s Third Tuesday Toronto has a panel of measurement experts who will lead us in a discussion of how we can move beyond social media as a faith-based initiative to measure its effects and contributions to the achievement of organizational objectives.

Leading our panelists will be Katie Paine, President of KD Paine and Partners and author of Measuring Public Relationships. Joining Katie will be Marshall Sponder, the Chair of the Web Analytics Association`s Community and Social Media committee, and Marcel Lebrun, President of Radian6.

Our panelists will be arriving at Third Tuesday straight from the Roundtable on Social Media Measurement and Metrics. So, this will extend the conversation beyond the roundtable into the broader social media community in Toronto. And we`ll be recording this session so that we can pick up quotes and snippets of the discussion for inclusion in the White Paper that we will be writing following the Roundtable.

So, plan to come out for a good discussion with some smart people who know a lot about measurement and, like us, are looking for ways to measure the impact of social media.

As always, this event will be free to anyone who wants to participate. Thanks to CNW Group who have sponsored us throughout the year and wherever Third Tuesdays are held. You keep the community in social media.

Very interesting - particularly loved Katie's comments on using traditional academic tools for WOM/community/network measurement and applying them.

What was with the dog? http://socialcapitalvaluead... Thanks Joe & Michael for a great event. It was the first time that I have taken "the dog" out for a walk in meat space. Met great people. I am looking forward to getting better connected with everyone.

I'm trying to sign up a guest. The site says it's sold out, given 13 maybes. I'm sure an esteemed industry gate-crasher will be welcome, yes?

Moments ago, I learned that www.changethis.com has accepted my proposal to write a manifesto on this topic. Please vote for it when it goes up on Tuesday. see www.socialcapitalvalueadd.com for details.

the most common comment I hear from potential clients is "but how do we know social media works?" Glad you're helping us find answers!

Oh thanks for reminding me Guinevere, I'll be at MESH too!

Dang I just realized this does conflict with MESH. Sorry I'll miss it :(

I LOVE the topic. We had some amazingly positive offline events happen due to a social media campaign late last year. I'd love to hear what other folks are measuring. It's gonna be a long day with MESH earlier, but should be worth it!

    •  Great topic!!

great turnout! a lot of the discussion was general knowledge/ not all that helpful there werent as many opportuntieis to meet others/ network as i would like
    •  If I was able to hear, I think I would have more to say but the previous meeting I attended was very good.
    • Paige (+1 guest)
I don't have to tell you how relevant the topic is! That was more than obvious by the turn out! I came out of last night's session with some new ideas and perspectives for more than just measurement. I'm sure the panel was exhausted from the round table earlier that day, but they were in fine form for the group. I look forward to follow up sessions to see who has been able to build or apply any new metrics and how they're doing it. Great work!
    •  I found that the speakers spent less time speaking about 'how to measure social media' and more time talking about the why and where to do so.
    •  It was really great to finally hear the infamous Katie Paine speak and get a chance to meet her. It was also really interesting to hear different options to measure social media as someone relatively new to the field.
    •  Katie was brilliant and I was impressed with the questions and examples that came from the large (!) audience. It was my first time attending and as a PR professional, the discussion allowed me to consider my own clients and how we can service them better with this information. Thanks.
    • Jenn (+1 guest)
Was hard to hear the speakers at times, but otherwise it was good. I didn't necessarily learn anything new, but it was interesting to hear the experiences and practices of others.
    •  Honestly, I thought it was very well organized (as per usual).
    •  Loved it!
    •  Although there is still a lot more to learn on the social media measurement frontier, it was great to listen directly to the insightful panelists. I came away with concrete practical information as well.
    •  Some really good and lively discussion.
    • Melany Gallant (+1 guest)
Was really great to hear different views from panelists on measuring social media.
    •  MR2P http://mrpdata.co... I would love to try this out.
    •  Excellent panel discussion. Disagreement was indicative of some of the uncertainty around this topic.
    •  My first Third Tuesday event and loved it. Can't wait 'til the next one.
    • Susie Floresco (+1 guest)
       interesting discussion
    •  This was my first meetup. I'm still learning a lot about social media in general which was what motivated me to join this group. At this point I still have more questions than answers but I was impressed by the knowlege of the presenters and the questions/input by the participants.
    • Daniel (+1 guest)
Was unable to get up the steps and into the event. Have you considered a larger venue? like, the Granite Brewery?
    •  As this was my first meeting I found that some of the information on the panel was a bit too advanced, however overall there was tons of interesting topics covered. Over my head or not I found it fascinating especially Marcel LeBrun he was very good at explaining his points and is extremely intelligent. Can't wait for the next meeting!!
    •  The panel was exceptional. The room was challenged to accomodate the numbers and the audience questions were not consistently at the same level of sophistication as the panel.
    •  Key insight that I took away was there is no silver bullet. It's comes down to an understanding on what you want to achieve and making sure that you have the facility to track that effectively.
