Hits (and misses) from South By Southwest

Did you miss South by Southwest this year? Are you wondering what all the sound and fury actually amounted to?

Now you can hear about what really mattered at SXSW from three social media leaders who were there. Keith McArthurDave Fleet, and Karen Geier have just returned from SXSW. And they've come back with stories to tell. What were the most promising and intriguing ideas they heard? What were the biggest fails? Where is social media going? What are the top trends we we should be looking for over the next year? What's hot? What's not?

Keith, Dave and Karen will share what they heard and learned at SXSW at the next Third Tuesday Toronto on March 29. Join us that evening for a great, free form discussion that packs the best of SXSW into one hour.

Agenda:

6:00 - 6:30 Networking

6:30 - 7:30 Panel discussion

7:30 - ? Mix and mingle with new and old friends

Good networking event. It was very hard to hear the panel discussion.

Very low on content. Too much talking about -how it's good to get a hotel near the event, the best time to connect with people at the event, etc. Not enough info on what the best presentations were, what were the highlights of the fest this year, ie. useful content. The only positive I can mention is that it was a good turnout and therefore a good opportunity to meet interesting people.

I really liked that there was a smaller crowd. It was much easier to meet people and network. The panel discussion was also good.

Was expecting to hear a little bit more about the *content* shared at SXSW (trends and innovations).. Not so much about the conference organization, logistics, how to get around, how to effectively meet people etc...

Content was okay but I was at the back of the room and initially couldn't hear at all. It was slightly raised so that I could hear two of the speakers, but the woman almost not at all. Need a better audio set-up if you continue in that room, in order that people in the back can hear.

Never having attended SXSW it was interesting to learn it includes tech and film events on top of the music. What's next, mixing athletes in with the geeks and cool people? Still, I was hoping to learn more about how the music biz uses social media to engage and market in an environment that's so dramatically affected by technology. That's the real cutting edge.

Panel had very little informative stuff to say. The focus seemed to have been more on their personal experiences rather than what were up & coming trends. Joseph asked 2 really good questions and tried to steer the conversation from being about the parties and the ice cream truck but the panel was not able to answer them. One last excellent question was how would the panel justify being paid for going there again next year and frankly outside of them creating great connections, I failed to grasp from their answers how their companies could benefit from this.

Again, Joseph had some really good questions and i think if he went alone next time it would make for a much better SXSW report.

Overall it was worthwhile, the panelists were engaging and there were things I took away.

The company was great but there were a few event misses; there were not enough chairs, the mics were not loud enough for all to hear and I found the presenters did not bring forth real key takeaways. Felt more like they were reminiscing about there SXSW parties... Don;t mind standing at an event but not if I paid $10
