JAN 19: Julien Smith - Co-author of Trust Agents at Third Tuesday Vancouver

Julien Smith, co-author with Chris Brogan of Trust Agents, a New York Times best-seller, singled out on Amazon.com as one of the top 10 business and investing books of 2009, will be the next speaker at Third Tuesday.

We're excited to have him! Julien will be sharing his insights into the nature of social capital, the role of trust agents and how we can form tribes with others who care about the things we care about. In Julien's words: "We will never need more advertising. We will always need more community, and tighter links between those we care about. Learning to build tribes using the new radios has never been more important, and understanding social capital has never been more valuable."

“You need to be liked, and you start becoming likable by being worthy of being liked.”

Thank you to our sponsors - CNW Group, Rogers Communications, Molson Coors Canada, Fairmont Hotels and Resorts and Radian6 - underwrite the cost of bringing speakers to Third Tuesdays in cities across Canada. Their sponsorship goes toward travel, accommodation, the costs of the venue and audio visual.

Our speakers donate their time. Thank you Julien.

I will be there. I will be square. I will put my hands up in the air like I just don't care.

I felt the points were a bit basic for the crowd, since most of us have a pretty solid understanding of social media. I would have liked to see him get into more depth.

Room ws very crowded - but organizers did a good job of providing an overflow lounge with screen so we did get to see the slides, though not Julien!

Julien's presentation was thoughtful and engaging - but most of all it was interesting. It was great to listen to one of the though leaders in the social media space. It brought out the best and brightest Vancouver has to offer in social media - it was impressive to see them all in one space.

Julien did a fantastic job. His non-conventional approach was refreshing and thought provoking. There were definitely some great discussions afterwards. Thanks Tanya and Monica for pulling this together :)

Great talk. Great people. The space could have been utilized a little better with some table moving before the talk, so that more people could fit in the room.

Julien provided an engaging presentation, I suppose the the X and Y generation will rule the means behind being able to fully embrace this message and hence profit from it. But I can't help thinking we belief rather too heavily in this new approach to networking as a means to a sustainable social and business interactivity. By that I mean, during turbulent down turns in economic growth, pressures from increased competition and ultimately our ability at being able to earn a living, are yet again becoming very difficult and, in some instances impossible for us all. The machine of commerce and industry simply appear to turn off, leaving both seasoned professionals and graduates scrambling for the same contracts and dollars. Golden rule; get 1% of something and you are doing very well!

What a great presenter. Broke down the feeling that I had of getting over my head in my career transition. Thanks again!

Too many people to be in the main room so we had to just watch the slides with Julien's voice over. Made it tough to follow along. Met two good guys so networking-wise great.

Since I came late, I wasn't able to see the speaker, only the screen. I felt the visuals weren't strong enough and the points fairly basic.
