Join us for Martinis and IMAX. The film we will be watching is the 9pm showing of Alaska: Spirit of the Wild. 'Take and amazing journey to the land of exotic wildlife and breathtaking beauty. Learn the ultimate story of survival; where wildlife triumphs over harsh winter conditions and thrives on the abundance of spring and summer.' This academy award nominated movie takes audiences fishing with brown bears, soaring with bald eagles, dodging calving glaciers and racing on the hooves of caribou.
This is also Salsa night, where Salsambo plays varioius kinds of Latin Rhythms if you are into dancing-and teaches the basic steps of Salsa to those interested. A lot of people love to dance to Salsa, Meringue, Cha-Cha and other Latin dances played during the evening.
The third treat, (free to Fernbank members-three bucks for those who arent) is the extreme mammals exhibit, recently started which highlights the smallest, largest and most unusual animals of all time. The exhibition includes skeletons of investigate the similarities and differences between mammals.
Join us for a great movie with Fernbanks 72 foot high screen to accentuate the marvelous spectacle of Alaska, our last frontier. For those who wish to see the exhibit and/or shake it and dance to Salsa music; the choice is yours to have fun as you wish with like minded 35uppers.
I can not accentuate the importance of finding our check in table at the bottom of the stairs, once you purchase tickets to the movie. I always try to be early enough to set up a small sign in table close to the bottom of the stairs. I will have a noticable 35up sign or balloons or both. If you dont sign in you will be shown as a no-show. This event, being on Friday night tends to have many of those, and they will be noted after the event. Please only sign up if you are genuinly interested in the movie and dancing and/or the extreme mammals exhibition.
The cost for Martinis and IMAX alone is $8, with movie $12; and exhibition is 3 more if you aren't a member of Fernbank. Drinks are $8 dollars for a martini, $7 for a glass of wine, and $6 for beers. There is a relatively small menu of different bar type foods, most very good and worth the money.
Lateness after 7pm is OK and allowed; but I will lose interest in signing people in about 8:30; shortly before the film starts. The people that show up always enjoy this immensely and if you havent experienced and IMAX movie you are in for a treat.
