Join your Mingling in Atlanta & 35Up Atlanta MeetUp friends at the World Famous, Roswell Covered Bridge for an awe inspiring 5 mile Chat & Scoot Trek.

Start: 1:30 P.M., at the Covered Bridge Trail-head for Vickery Creek (w/2 restrooms). (Note: We will do a newly designed 5 mile Trek! Partially, renewed by our Roswell trail rehabilitation volunteers. This renovated trail part has a new Eagle Scoot project bridge, we will be crossing, as well.)

This will be a 5 miles stretch, we will be watching closely for Vickery's Great Blue Heron along this beautiful creek feed into the Chattahoochee. 35Up's trail scoot & Great Blue Heron search will begin at Vickery’s beautiful Covered Bridge, and with the exception of a few short steep stretches alongside the creek-ravine bluffs and gorges, the terrain is fairly level. (Easy Level D-2) We will include a stop at the spillway dam, which fed the mill wheel in a factory downstream. Supplying textiles for Confederate uniforms, the mill was a primary target for Gen. William Sherman whose troops destroyed the facility during the Civil War. The trails along Big Creek are very scenic with the sound of a rushing mountain creek and waterfall. The search will be led by Memphis Russ, a seasoned explorer with intimate knowledge of the Vickery Creek Trials.

As a result of getting lost and driving around for 45 mins we arrived at the trailhead at 3 and we hiked about 2 miles before we decided it was getting late and turned back. A rain shower started at about 5pm and the downpour started just mins after we made it back to our car. It was over in about 20 mins and the drive home was dry. It was a good hike and we plan to go again soon. A few hikers encountered snakes which made me nervous.

I am also on the watch for weather, it was so nasty yesterday in Alpharetta, would not want to be caught in that type of rain in the woods. :)

The start time is too late in the day for me. I hope the next hike starts earlier in the day.
