Learn to Fence with 35up - Two Hour Class at the North Georgia Fencing Center -$14.25

The North Georgia Fencing Center will provide 35up members a class in the fundamentals of Olympic style fencing beginning with basic footwork, and bladeworkas well as open fencing sessions using electronic scoring equipment to fence Foil, Epee, & Saber. There is no equipment required for the beginner class. The 35up class is open to all ages from 8 years old to adult so this is definitely a family event.

The class will be headed up by North Georgia Fencing Center's Head Fencing Instructor Gary Di Maggio, Fencing Instructor & USFA Competitor plus other members of his staff.

Gary Di Maggio began fencing in 1978 for Salle de Nord where he trained under Fencing Master of over 50 years, Maitre Mel North. Maitre North trained & coached fencers on 6 olympic teams & 5 World Teams. He also trained numerous collegiate & high school championship fencers.

Under Maitre North’s tutelage, Gary Di Maggio competed & earned ratings in all 3 weapons in the A.F.L.A. (Ameteur Fencing League of America). In less than 4 years he earned his "A" in epee ( the highest rating in A.F.L.A. competition), earned his "B" in foil, and also earned his "C" in saber. Mr. Di Maggio also finshed 12th at the under 19 nationals in 1980 & was the Southern California under 20 epee champion. He has also trained at the United States Olympic Training Center in Sqaw Valley California. Mr Di Maggio is also nationally ranked in men's veteren 40-49 epee competition.

Current Georgia State Veteren's Epee Champion.
Member of Georgia State 2006 & 07 Championship Men's Epee Team.
4-1st place finishes at Georgia USFA fencing competitions.
Consistently finishes in the top 25% of all competitions.
Ranked 1st in the 2006 Georgia State Points Standings in epee.
Nationally Ranked top 32 of Men's 40 to 49 age bracket epee competition at the 2004 Summer Nationals Qualifying 5th overall amongst 32 fencers at Georgia qualifiers for the 2004 Summer Nationals finishing in the top 32 for fencers 40 –49 veterens in the nation.
Since NGFC's inception Coach Di Maggio has also coached several state champions in both individual and team competition including last years, Georgia High School fencing League Champion, Men's Epee State Championship team and this years 1st place qualifier for Junior Olympic Qualifiers competition. This last year, he coached a top 8 finalist at the USFA Summer Nationals.

This is an event not to be missed.  To provide the best instruction possible, space is very limited for this event as we want as small a ratio as possible of instructors to students.
