New Year Cruise to Bahamas

  • Dec 30, 2011 · 1:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

Over a dozen of us went on the same New Year cruise to Bahamas last year (see pics). It was splendid to ring in the New Year with friends aboard all inclusive cruise ship(except alcohol and soda); and as a bonus got to enjoy the warmer weather, white sands, turquoise blue

waters, tropical drinks, and all the champagne we could handle.

Cruises are floating 5 star hotels which take you to different destinations, with All you can eat food from different cuisines, room service, Broadway style and other entertainment shows, gym, night clubs, Casinos, duty free shopsdancing, group activities, swimming pools, and so much more is included in the price below.

(1006 miles roundtrip, gas =$3/gallon, divided amongst 3 riders)

Volunteer driversare needed and they don't pay for gas, only the riders chip in.

(Gas is expensive in Florida, so fill up before you cross the border)

Parking update - Called the port authority and rates now are $20/day or $60 for our cruise. Made additional calls & checked online to find $5.95/day option at the Radisson hotel next door. They will shuttle us there and pickup on return. There link is on the bottom. I have made reservation for our car/carpool (no paymt required now); so reserve your spot too. http://www.parkportcanaveral.com/reservations/

Parking street address for GPS is: 8701 Astronaut Blvd. Cape Canaveral, Florida 32920

Cruise Disclaimer:

The cruise lines can increase rates without notice. A rate is not protected or "frozen" unless a confirmation number has been issued. All prices and dates may not be available at time of booking. All information is subject to change without notice. We reserve the right to correct errors.

Name Change, or Cancellation:

Royal Caribbean is one of the only cruise lines that don’t charge a name change fee; but all cruise lines consider it a full cancellation if the two people in a two person cabin cancel; even if they have two other people to switch with. Each reservation has to have at least one original guest; this is a non-negotiable item and has more to do with legalities stemming from Homeland Security regulations than revenue.

Anu and I are good and in West coast now. How have you been? It's been almost 3 years, we certainly need to catch up, even if it's in Alaska :). Message me directly so we don't bore others with personal chat.

I had the most amazing time on the cruise with my daughter and the 35&Up crew! It was the best and most fun vacation I've ever been on. Everyone was a joy to be around and the champagne, food and dancing on NYE was a blast! I'm looking forward to more excursions with the group. Thanks a million to Bob Malhi for all the time and effort you put forth to make this an amazing experience for everyone who attended! A big congrats to you and Anu!!! So happy for you both!!!

This was the best vacation I have been on since the 80s. The short cruise was a good introduction to Bahama cruising. Shipboard there were plenty of activities and both islands were unique and interesting. Bob's ideas for activities were well thought out and affordable. At dinner we gathered to visit, and coordinate the evening and next day activities. I participated in both group and individual activities. The new years eve party was incredible both on the ship and watching the fireworks on shore. Overall this was an awesome vacation and far above what I would ever expect from a meetup event. We learned about body shots, G6 sandwiches and all sorts of things :)
Bob was a great host and organizer. I now know who inspired the song 'Le Freak'!! Bob was full of energy, enthusiasm and good suggestions throughout the trip. If you get a chance to see the video from dinner on the 31st you can see just how special the cruise was.... and that was awesome :) Thanks for including us in that Bob.

Sifting thru the memories...I did more this weekend than I've done in months! My objective was to swim and dance - check! Plus, I made new friends, went to clubs, the casino, left the country, and almost didn't make it off the boat! First time out of the country, first time cruise, first time in casino...Only thing missing was some shipboard romance for me. Very creative weekend - I drew, painted, wrote, connected with nature, and with myself. Thanks for the memories! Thanks for the opportunity to enter a new year in a new way. I stepped way out of my comfort zone to have this adventure. (by the way, any negatives I personally experienced will come out as humorous antedotes in my book!)

High Five in all areas. One of the best experience ever. Few reasons:
    - Organizer like BobM who spoiled us all; sometime, I found myself to be totally useless. I have never met a selfless event organizer like Bob. - Amazing people & diversity of the group. It was amazing to find the experience/talent in the group ranging from an User Experience innovator to Graphic designers, Tax/CPA consultants, IT leader, Home Improvement Entrepreneur, MIT/Career Consultant/writer, Project Mgr, HD Contractor/Demo/Dating Entrepreneur(OMG! not enough space to list all about Don W-- he agreed to publish a book on his experiences), Legal experts, Environmentalist, Healthcare professional, National Celebrity to Product Mgmt (me) and the list goes on. A great opportunity to network *professionally* too. PM me if you want to link a name to a profession.

    - A lot of fun, group activities (dancing included). No designated drivers were needed so every1 had perfect opportunity to get wasted.

Very well organized. All the information was provided in a very clear and concise format with simple instructions to follow. Bob, the organizer went well beyond our expectations by highlighting personal celebrations, awards and birthdays. I am certainly looking forward to more events like this.

Please make sure to review Eric's last email at 6.01pm. It has lot of good last minute information. I was working on similar; but he is pro at this. If you did not receive it, email me and I'll forward it to you.

As of 1.26pm, Email to the private confirmed group has been sent along with 3 attachments. 1 has the Dicks' Sporting goods coupon, 2 has the spreadsheet with room numbers, contact phones, emails, and carpool information; and 3 has the Nassau high level map with places to visit. If you don't see it, please check your spam box and/or add [masked] to safe sender list. Thanks.

  • BobM

I have most everyone's email minus 2. For rooms, I don't have Andy, Marci, or Helen.
I've provided enough notice & emails. If you don't want to share your info or be part of the group, that is perfectly fine; this is last heads up & I don't want to ask for same thing over. The only vested reason I have is to make sure you don't get left out. After this message, most communication will be via the private mail group. Look for my email w attach by noon or check [masked] in SPAM folder.

  • BobM

Reminder: I don't know everything, but I'll find answers for you.
From talking to a member recently, I got the impression they were expecting me to check them in, get their room info, and more. I'm just a volunteer organizer, who is only creating an opportunity for us to have fun together. You are responsible for your own actions or in-actions. I'm not getting paid and nothing more than the joy of sharing fun times with friends. So please pay attention to emails & follow Check-in instructions

1 week & 1 day away from our fantastic voyage. At this point you should have already logged into (or select link provided by Eric) http://www.royalcaribbean.com to create your profile, enter personal information (passport etc), setup onboard expense acct, printed your Check-In docs, & requested your luggage tags. All this helps you get better prepared and take significantly less time at the port.

    December 22, 2011

  • BobM

It appears that some didn't receive my long email. Please email me at [masked] to let me know. I have personal email address of most but not all. I still need Marci, Nina, & Julie's address to create a separate email thread.
It is important you read through ALL email coming from Eric, Royal Caribbean, and check mine as well. If you haven't already "checked-in" with your personal information and passport; now is a good time. I would hate if anyone is left behind because you didn't read

Hi all - I just reserved a spot for my car per Bob's recommendation. I did call, and their shuttle leaves every 30 minutes. Which is huge as you don't want to be waiting around. :o)

Their street address for GPS is: 8701 Astronaut Blvd. Cape Canaveral, Florida[masked]http://www.parkportcanaveral.com/reservations/

Unless you have miles to use, cheapest Delta as of now is 410+taxes ($448). Orlando is 45miles from the port and cruise lines have shuttles that charge $75 round trip. Or if you can get a group together then "http://port-canaveralshuttle.com/"; provides $200 (+ 20% tip) toundtrip for up to 4 passengers.
Please make sure to provide supporting information when posting suggestions/comments on the open wall.
Same goes for responses to individual inquiries. Please contact the person directly. Thanks

Marci and I were not able to attend the pre-cruise meetup. We are debating renting a car and possibly driving the day before but are interested to know if there are people still looking for carpool members or if anyone else is considering going down the day before.

SOLD OUT - The very last room is under hold by our member Helen. She will pay tomorrow.
With shuffling & room swapping 11 rooms booked +1 on hold.
Don W, cruise refunded you instead of Andy, so please work together on that.
We didn't get the minimum 8 by 11/11; however the raffle for digital movie camera is still on. Since no rooms are left, we could raffle tomorrow; however want Helen to have an opportunity as well. If she takes care of it before our meeting, then we'll do that too.See ya
