35up! Happy Holidays Happy Hour and Dancing at the 57th Fighter Squadron

Join 35up! and celebrate th eHolidays at a Thursday Celebration at the 57th Fighter Squadron Restaurant. The 57th is not only providing us with a DJ for this event but is extending happy hour pricing until 9:00 PM.

Step back in time with Atlanta's favorite World War II aviation theme restaurant. The dining experience is inspired with a regional twist on classic American cuisine in an intimate 1940's European farmhouse setting.

57th has a great dance floor and is a fun place to party. While you’re there check out the patio and see if they have the fire pits going and what’s landing on the PDK runway just over the fence.

Enjoy: (subject to change - please check back closer to event)

Its too early to say, but the 57th allways has specials they extend to 9:00 PM for us.

After enjoying the food and drinks, show off your moves while you burn off the calories on the dance floor.

Do remember this is a capped event, so if by chance you can't make it, be sure to change your status for those who may be waiting! No shows risk being removed from the next capped event. Can't wait to see you all!

The restaurant entrance is located immediately south of the entrance to DeKalb-Peachtree Airport (facing the airport entrance, the entrance is on your right) next to the Dekalb County Board of Health Building. You cannot see the restaurant from the street as it is at the end of a long driveway.

If you are new to 35up! or don't know a lot of people, please get your name tag and then look for our new members tables located between the dance floor and the patio windows. We will have some of our organizers located there between 6:30 and 8:00PM and you can meet other members, new and old, as well.

See you there!

OK, I get it that the DJ wasn't responsive to requests. He had a track of music that he was playing from and wasn't choosing individual songs. My understanding is that they provided this DJ just for us, so in the future people, just go with the flow. It appeared to me that the vast majority of people were having fun. I certainly did.

Martha, 57th Fighter Group Restaurant has two new managers and they are changing some things. Beyond that, I have speculations and I have heard rumors. However, I have been told that the DJ from Thursday evening will in the future be their only DJ. Apparently, none of the previous DJ's will be back.
Some people have said that the better dancers don't drink and that the restaurant wants to make more money from the bar. I have always felt that the better dancers make the bar more appealing for everyone. I don't think dancers run off any of their clientele.
The other friendly DJ's had a following of dancers and they were appealing to dancers. One possibility is that the new managers do no want to be appealing to dancers.

Well if the DJ was there FOR US then they should have taken requests or asked what type of music we would prefer. I'm sure there are several restaurants that would welcome 350 people on a Thursday night. As it was I pretty much walked in and walked right back out, I didn't want to deal with the ugh music and reactions because of it. :/

This was my third 35up meeting. I have been disappointed in two - this one and the first - "For Newcomers." I am a very friendly outgoing person and can comfortably introduce myself to a group of strangers which I tried to do last night about 4 or 5 times. And each time I was given the impression that I was invading a papal conclave, and backed out of the group as quickly and silently as possible. The word clic came to mind each time. In my first meeting, which was supposed to be for new members, the meeting was actually co-mingled with some other meetup groups. I ended up on a table where more than half were people who knew each other from the other groups. They occupied the middle of the table and basically excluded those on each side from their conversation. My third meeting - Trvia - was in fact alot of fun. I just have to be more choosy in my meetings. Sorry for the rant, but I would rather be upfront than rubberstamping something that is not working.

So my expectations were pretty low to start--I thought, how could this venue handle[masked] people re: the drink, food orders and all the folks on the dance floor? I was pleasantly surprised! The food and drinks were prompt and of decent quality, although one waiter confused Beefeater with Bushmills (!) and the dance floor relatively uncrowded. As far as the DJ goes, he played Gangnam Style so he's ok with me LOL!

It was fun but would have been more fun if the "manager/back DJ" would have had a better attitude. He was very rude! But, it's not the organizers' faults. Thank-you for your hard work organizing this meetup!

One more comment on the crowd size. Th 57th has successfully hosted dancing for larger crowds than we will bring tonight in the past. See you there!

    December 20, 2012

All, 35up has held 6 meetups at the 57th on Thursdays over the past year and they have always gotten the DJ there on time. I have personally been in contact with them and they are aware we are coming. 57th is a big operation with a lot going on and you have to speak with the right people. And yes, their regular schedule doesn't show it because they do it special for us :)

Thanks for checking though, but I suspect all will be ok. If you have questions, it is best to check with one of the hosts rather than create a hubbub. And when you come tonight, you may want to thank one of them for setting these events up. Chris
