Announcing a new Meetup for 35UP!!

What: Sweetwater Creek State Park hike and grilling afterwards

When: Saturday, April 17,[masked]:30 AM

Where: Sweetwater Creek State Park-Lithia Springs, GA

We will meet at the Thornton Road park and ride lot, right off the Thornton Road exit when turning right at the top can see the lot, but have to drive to the first light at N.Blairs Bridge Road, travel up hill to the short distance to the top of the hill and turn right at the 'T' intersection and down into the lot close to Thornton Road, where we will carpool from. We will try to leave the park and ride at 8:45am to be at the park close to 9am next to the hiking trails (acrooss the lake and road on the left immediately after crossing. The fee per care is 3 bucks, so whole cars will save not only parking spaces but money. Please chip in money for you driver to pay his or her fee.
We will meet, coorindinate Sweetwater Creek State Parks main hiking trail parking area. When we are all gathered we will then hike the Red historical trail that goes to Mill Ruins from the Civil War with great story boards about the Mill; and after leisurly reading to the groups satisfaction and milling around the mill, we will continue the hike to Sweetwater Falls and hike back on the Blue trail which goes up some slight hills and terrain and through the woods for a total hiking distance of some five miles max; which will all be taken at a leisurly enjoy nature-take pictures pace.
The Blue trails ends at the back of the great visitor center which has historical and naturalist exhibits of local animals and the history of area and civilized restrooms and a gift shop. It is worth the extra time to mill around this as well and stretch us close to lunch time.
I have been told the shelters unrented are free and will call before the event to see which number cooresponds to open shelters, most close to the hiking trails. Bring what you want to grill and share in a potluck type of meal-a salad of some sort, chips and let me know in signing up so we dont get overloaded in chips, potato, macaroni salad, cole slaw etc; so we can all enjoy a balanced meal together and more importantly comaraderie together afterwards at this very popular park. We are starting early because at ten to noon it fills up quickly in the parking area.
Please tell us what side dish or item you are bringing. I will bring plastic ware, plates and cups to eat food out of. You may also tell us your main dish and will help if someone bring buns for hot dogs or hamburgers in balanced amount to the interested peoples notes signing up. You may also bring chicken, corn to grill in aluminum foil; whatever strikes your fancy; but chicken or anyhing should be kept in a personal cooler to store in the drivers cars.
We hope to see you all there. If there is any time concerned people who need to be somewhere, that is NO problem, but you will have to be seperated at the park and ride, NOT to create chaotic switching and scrambling to and from different cars, there will be non grilling cars and people interested in eating and having fun together driving in the same vehicles.
