Clockers Corner, Barn Tour and Day at the Races

Join us for a tour of the barns, meet a trainer, and have a free day at the races courtesy of Santa Anita!

Santa Anita will provide us with a tour of the barns and horses, a betting seminar, programs, clubhouse admission, and private box seats. All you need to take care of yourself is $4 parking (free before 10:00) and lunch. You are welcome to bring your own lunch, however alcohol and glass are prohibited. Dining of all levels (simple concessions to nice sit down) is available on track.

Participants are advised to arrive at Santa Anita Park no later than 9:30 am via gate 8 off Baldwin Avenue. Upon reaching the 'Y' in the road when you make your turn into Gate 8, take the left fork in the road (the right takes you to the Westfield Shopping Center) and proceed to the security gate. Inform the guard that you are taking a barn tour with Nate Newby and park in the Clockers' Corner Parking Lot. (It is the same parking lot as the Seabiscuit Tour lot).

The Meetup will commence at 9:30 at Clocker's Corner.

After breakfast the group will go back for the barn tour segment of the morning in order to talk to the trainer and meet the horses. The length of the barn tour depends upon group interest in asking questions and spending time with the horses. Photos are typically welcome though the trainer reserves final say.

Afterwards the group will be taken up to their private box seats to watch races and spend the rest of the afternoon as they wish. Typically there are eight races each day, with approximately thirty minutes between each.

Barbara will be available for questions or to provide personal assistance throughout the afternoon at the seating arrangements if you have wagering or horse racing questions, or just want to shoot the breeze about the sport.

It was a great day at beautiful Santa Anita Park. We started off watching early morning workouts over breakfast at Clockers Corners. Barbara arranged with the track for us to have a "backstage tour" of the barn area and meet the horses along with a successful trainer who gave us insights into racehorse ownership. We heard the latest on the filming of "Luck" at Santa Anita, and one of our group put in his bid to be an extra. An introductory betting seminar with Glenn Alsdorf in the infield resulted in a better understanding of the wagering process and a winning ticket for me! We enjoyed great box seats and clubhouse admission - all free thanks to Barbara's contacts with Nate Newby from Marketing! We got to see so much - the horses in the paddock before the race, the jockeys, and of course the exciting racing. Lunch was great, too, available at all price levels from a variety of take out and sit down restaurants. Can't wait to do it again! Thanks Barbara & Dennis for setting it up.
