Join fellow 3H hikers as we wend our way around the Hedgepeth Hills of Thunderbird Conservation Park at a comfortable to moderate pace.
Trails: H-1a to H-2 Loop
Trail Length: H-1a Trail: .3 miles; H-2 Trail: 1.5 miles (Total: ~ 2 miles)
Elevation Gain/Loss: ~ 500 ft
Trail Composition: Hardpack dirt, boulders, rocks, gravel.
Rating: EASY to MODERATE (rocky terrain, loose rock, steep grades)
Hiking Time: 1 - 1.5 hours (Faster, if you hurry!)
Trail Description: The Thunderbird Conservation Park is geographically divided into three distinct hills---the Hedgepeth Hills---containing over 20 miles of well-maintained, well-marked trails. Though the elevation doesn't sound like much, an overall gain of about 500 feet, these trails offer challenging grades and switchbacks over a somewhat rocky terrain with scenic views of the Valley and surrounding mountain ranges.

What to Bring: WATER (1-2 liters), sun protection (long sleeves, sunscreen, hat).
Meeting Location: Meet in the dirt/gravel parking lot SOUTH of Pinnacle Peak Road, just EAST of the Traffic Light at 55th Avenue.
Carpooling: There are no official Carpool Locations for this hike. Participants are encouraged to organize ride sharing among themselves.
Driving Directions:
FROM LOOP 101 WEST: EXIT 59th Avenue; drive NORTH 1.75 miles to Thunderbird Conservation Park (59th curves to the right to become Pinnacle Peak Rd); turn EAST onto Pinnacle Peak Rd. Park Entrance is just EAST of the Traffic Light at 55th Ave, SOUTH of Pinnacle Peak Rd. It is a dirt/gravel parking lot.
FROM LOOP 101 EAST: EXIT 27th Avenue; take the Access Road WEST to 35th Avenue, turn RIGHT. Drive NORTH to Pinnacle Peak Rd; turn LEFT at Traffic Light; drive WEST to Park Entrance just before Traffic Light at 55th Ave; Park Entrance is SOUTH of Pinnacle Peak Rd. It is a dirt/gravel parking lot.
FROM I-17: EXIT Pinnacle Peak Road; drive WEST to Park Entrance just before Traffic Light at 55th Ave; Park Entrance is SOUTH of Pinnacle Peak Rd. It is a dirt/gravel parking lot.
