2nd annual Rogers Trough to Ruins hike and car camp

Hi kids,, we are heading back to the Roger Trough area for a trip to some well preserved ruins.. Last year the weather was awesome during the day (70's) with a low in the mid 50's at night..

This trip is approximately 9 miles long with the ruins at the turn around point.. Since we will be going down to the ruins that means we will be going up on the return when people will be tired, therefore if you are not a strong hiker comfortable with rocky trails this is not your hike..

Saturday night we will car camp at the trail head so this will be a good chance to try camping if you are a beginner..

The road will require a high clearance vehicle to access the trail head, however I have seen Honda's and Subaru's in the parking lot..

Well behaved dogs are welcome........

We will meet at Home Depot and convoy to the trail head..

Please, let me know if I can carpool with someone who will not stay overnight! I do not have a high clearance vehicle. Thank you!

  • Anna E.

Is it possible for some not to stay overnight?

    March 14, 2013

    • Chris

Most people did not stay overnight last year. You will know for sure at the carpool.

The road is rough so if you have a vehicle that has high clearance, strong suspension and tires please bring it to the carpool.

I'm assuming camping is an option; correct?

    March 21, 2013

Hi Deirdre, we will meet-up at Home Depot Saturday morning, you can drive or carpool with someone to the hike location. We will do the hike and you can go home without camping... Hope this helps,,,,,Joe

Hi Chris. I'm not sure I understand the logistics. I'm interested in doing this hike only if I don't have to camp the night before. I read your comment below that most people did not stay overnight and that it depends on the carpool but please explain further. Thanks!

I've never been here before, I did an 8 mile last year in Sedona. Is this a fitness hike or is there time for Breathers? Camping isn't a problem. I would love to see the ruins.

    March 18, 2013

    • Chris

This is not a fitness hike. The hard part is climbing back up one hill expecially if it's a warm day. I can send you the elevation gain. If you plan to camp you can go slow. If you have any questions click on my picture and email me.
