Pass Mountain Hike

  • May 5, 2013 · 8:00 AM

Length: 6 miles +/-

Rating: Easy to Moderate

Elevation Gain: 800 feet +/-

Come enjoy this trail in the Usery Mtns, east of Mesa, at your own pace, working at your own level.  Some hikers may be keeping a fairly fast pace for fitness.

This is an out and back hike, about 4 miles +/-, with an elevation change of about 800 feet +/-.

It is a rocky, hilly trail that is uphill going, and downhill coming back with great wilderness views from the pass.  We will continue another mile or so to take advantage of the views before turning back the way we came.

YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR OWN SAFETY. Bring water, sunglasses, hat, sunscreen and a smile.

MEET-UP LOCATION: Drive to Meridian Rd. (east of Mesa), head north on it until it ends at a trailhead. We will begin our hike here. (Go to “maps.google.com” and paste in, “E. McDowell & N. Meridian Rd., Mesa, AZ”. That is the trailhead location.)

TIME: Meet before 8 am, to leave promptly at 8am.

There have been recent Gila monster sightings on this trail.   Snakes and other creatures capable of defending themselves, may be found throughout the desert. Pay attention to the ground in front of you and to where you place your feet and hands. Generally, we want to leave flora and fauna undisturbed.

You can go at any pace you wish, but there is one junction in the trail (early on) that you want to take careful note of, so you don’t miss it coming back if you have chosen to come back alone.

Some hikers may be keeping a fairly fast pace.

Hi Patti, It's the usual + another mile or so out. It would be hard for me to start much earlier. What did you have in mind?

It's ok, I'll wait and do another day. I'm thinking I don't want to get to work very late on Sunday either. We've been so busy that it's better if I go in early.
