Woods Canyon Lake Hike/Picnic
Saturday July 20, 2013
Carpool 7am, Hike 9:30am
Easy 6 miles
Let's escape the heat and enjoy a pleasant lakeside stroll and picnic on the Mogollon Rim! Follow the blue diamond trail markers along the shoreline through pines, oak, ferns, wild rose, yellow columbine and a few aspen! Bring your binoculars to view the two eaglets in the Bald Eagle Nesting Area (detour in place adds another half mile to the normal 5.5 mile trail). Afterwards we'll enjoy a potluck picnic at the Rocky Point Picnic Ground. Fire Restrictions ARE in place: no charcoal fires allowed--you will notice the Forest Service has "locked" the charcoal BBQs; however, propane grills are allowed!
PLEASE INDICATE IN YOUR RSVP WHAT PICNIC ITEM YOU WILL BE BRINGING (If you are on the waiting list please do not list the picnic item until you are a confirmed YES).
THUNDERSTORMS ARE LIKELY IN THE AFTERNOON; PACK A RAIN PONCHO OR RAIN GEAR AND BRING DRY SACKS FOR CELL PHONES AND CAMERAS!
