Bell Pass to Windgate Pass and loop back down to Gateway

The morning will be beautiful!  So let's hike up to Bell Pass, down and around to Windgate Pass then make our way back to Gateway Trailhead.  Then the best part: go to Tom's Thumb Market for brunch

Length: 8-9 miles, from what I can determine from the map.  If you know better, please give me a comment below.

Difficulty: You bet, with periods of OMG and then ooh and awe.

Elevation Gain: Bell Pass is 1202 feet and Windgate Pass is 858 feet.  We'll have plenty of up and down.

Time: I'm guessing 4-5 hours

Warning: not suitable for beginners!  This is a good workout and you'll be happy if you regularly hike this kind of distance and elevation gain.  We have to keep a decent pace, so if it becomes clear that you aren't happily keeping up with the group, you have some great options to turn around or do Gateway Loop on your own.  Remember, only YOU are responsible for your own safety.

Bring lots of water 3-5 liters and snacks

I'll collect $1 voluntary donation to HHH.

So. Brenda, I did the loop you all did with a little side trek along Prospector and Thompson Peak & back to finish the loop. Big problems: not enough fuel and not enough fuel slowed my last 4 miles that I ended up in pretty intense heat, an hour later than anticipated. The Peak is a tough climb. Will do this when cooler and I bring/eat enough calories. I added 6.6 miles to the loop.

Congratulations on persevering, Christa! Even attempting that hike is bravery defined. The heat took our group by surprise too. I think some things are best left to October. But anyway, good for you for pushing yourself.
