Seven Summits Training Hike: FIVE summits

NOTE:  NEW MEETING PLACE AND PEAK MIX.  Apparently there's been a rash of car thefts at South Mountain - rotten people smashing windows and ransacking.  So let's go elsewhere.  Still: Ack!  This is hard!

We plan to complete FIVE today; that means we'll keep a brisk pace.  Please understand if we cannot wait for slower hikers.  Not recommended for beginners - you want to be very fit for these.

7:00 am  Meet at the Piestawa Peak (Squaw Peak) near the Navajo Ramada:  http://phoenix.gov/webcms/groups/internet/@inter/@rec/@parks/@parks/@nrd/documents/web_content/pmpramada.pdf

= 1162 ft elevation gain; 3 miles

9:ish:  Dixie Peak at 40th Street and Shea Blvd trailhead = 3 miles; 887 feet gain   http://azpra.org/Resources/Documents/PSC/PHX%207%202013/PHX7%20Summit%204.jpg

11:ish: Lookout Mountain 14441 N 18 Street, Phoenix = 3.2 miles; 586 feet gain   http://phoenix.gov/parks/trails/locations/lookout/index.html

1:30 ish: Meet at North Mountain Visitor Center 12950 N 7th Street for two peaks: North Mountain 2.3 miles and 614 ft gain and then Shaw Butte: 5.2 miles and 670 ft gain

4:00 pm: Finish!!!

Total: 18ish miles == easy! ha!

Water - we can leave extra water in our cars, so bring plenty.  Plus snacks/lunch.  We have time in our cars to eat and rest.

Warning:  this is really really tough, so feel free to start with us and stop when you want.  The times I show are my best guess, not guaranteed.

I'll give you my cell number when we meet at the first hike so we can coordinate.

Thank you for arranging this, Brenda! and thanks to Brenda, Jamey, and Pam for the great conversation that kept me too entertained to notice my exhaustion.

I have just two words: Yabba dabbadoo. Thanks so much for joining me and encouraging me and following me blindly and being such great sports and conversationalists. We put in a lot of miles and one can only do so with the good company of others (I believe). And thanks to Pam for uploading the photo. Enjoy Sunday!

It's gonna be a fantastic day! The high is 90, so be prepared with water and hat and sunscreen - you may need to re-apply throughout the day. See you bright and early with boots on:)

Hmmm is that the new diet doughnut that I find hard to believe exists?

Brenda, can't bring a coffee machine but could have some instant Sanka ready for cold coffee.

    October 22, 2013

    • brenda

Yes I'm sorry we will skip south mountain. Sanka doesn't work so you can bring those new donut croissant things I've been hearing about

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
