Robber's Roost

Trailhead: Peralta

Total Distance: ~ 6 miles (loop hike)

Accumulated Altitude: ~ 2000 ft.

Difficulty:Moderately difficult

Dog Friendly: Yes

There is a little
bit of catclaw, but not much.

YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR OWN SAFETY. THIS IS A DIFFICULT HIKE.

This is not the usual approach to Robbers's Roost via the Carney Springs trail. We'll be coming directly out of Peralta Canyon. This approach could almost be called a cross country route, even though there are light trails most of the way.

We start by going up a side canyon off Peralta Canyon before crossing a bush barrier. Then there is a 200 foot scramble to pick up a light trail.

At this point there is a nice ramp of bare rock, followed by another light trail that goes up the hill to get us above the Dacite Cliffs. From there we go to the base of hill 3818 for a 300 foot scramble to the top, then down to the saddle on the north side.

At that point we go up into a maze of rocks that is really the jagged cusp between two canyons. There is a light trail here.
The trail eventually junctions with another trail that runs along the top of Peralta Canyon, far above the official trail.

The same trail junction also takes us over to Robber's Roost. Robber's Roost is the apex of a funnel-like drainage area, which appears to have been shaped by extreme flash floods over the ages.

Overall, this entire approach provides a grand tour of an area that is quite complex and beautiful - like so many other places in the Supes.

The plan is to proceed at a steady pace, with no intention of getting the group separated for any length of time. This isn't a large area, but it is not that hard to get lost up here. We need to stay together. Hopefully someone will volunteer as a sweeper.

Car pool location: 7:45 AM Home Depot parking lot, off of Power Road and Superstition Springs, south of 60. Park on the south side of the parking lot, across from the main entrance. We will leave promptly at 8:00 AM!

Directions to the trailhead: Follow US 60 to Peralta Rd which is just east of mile post 204 and turn north on Peralta Rd. At 5.5 miles from US 60 follow the sign and take the left fork up the hill to Peralta Trailhead parking.

BRING AT LEAST 100 OUNCES OF WATER, AND A HEADLAMP JUST IN CASE. There won't be water along the way.

If you plan to carpool from Home Depot add it to your RSVP.

Yes, what a great hike and adventure. This hike was absolutely crazy! I think we all went soo high that we were in outer space at a couple points. Thanks again so much all who helped and encouraged me along when the height fright set in.
