Sondra will lead this INTERMEDIATE hike on the numerous and varied trails of the Phoenix Mountain Preserve Area at 32nd Street south of Shea Blvd. (Trail selection varies with each hike.) This is a hike that will start at the 32nd street park entrance and depending on the day and group, the hike will loop onto the 100 trail then continue to the 1A trail to the 304 trail, then return via 8 trail to the 100 trail back to 32nd street…or we will head off in one of a dozen directions and enjoy the many, many miles of trails that the Phoenix Mountain Preserve and Dreamy Draw Recreation Area provide.
Trailhead: From Shea Boulevard turn South onto 32nd Street. Follow for approximately 1 mile until 32nd Street dead ends at the trail entrance. Note: The parking area is small here, but there is plenty of parking on the neighboring residential streets.
Length: This 2 hour (sometimes longer, sometimes less) hike averages about 4.0 – 5.0 miles depending on the group’s ability.
Trail Composition: Compacted dirt, loose rocks, gravel. Some steep areas, and always, plenty of desert cacti.
Difficulty: MODERATE. You will have a good workout with this hike but it's not difficult.
ALWAYS - Be sure to BRING & DRINK plenty of water. During the high heat months, sunscreen, hats are recommended and water & electrolytes are critical. Winter months may require less water but more clothing.
