Dixie Mtn: Phoenix sonoran preserve

Howdy, Hikers! I have had to change this hike back to Dixie. It seems that all of us who know the alternate route previously listed, to Union Mt. will not be attending, so it's back to Dixie, which most of the current signups are familiar with. Sorry for the false alarm.  Dixie Mtn. is tucked away in the middle of the Preserve and offers a fine view of the North Valley. After a steady and gradual uphill climb, the wide bicycle trail of the preserve gives way to a steep bugger of a final quarter mile to the summit. Beginners welcome: Since we come back the same way, tired hikers can stop before the last climb and catch us on the way down. The hike returns via the same route. Most of the hike will be in the dark, so don't forget your light.

Meet time: 6:00

Distance: 3.2 miles

Elevation gain: 600' (1600 to 2200 feet)

Terrain: Well maintained bicycle trail with a short/steep hiking trail to the top

Rating: Moderate

Duration: 1.5 hours

Equipment: Your sturdy hiking shoes and at least some water. Also, a headlight or light source

Directions: From I17, exit Jomax and go right (East) to Norterra Parkway. Go left (North) to a T intersection at North Valley Parkway. Turn Right (South) to Copperhead trail. Go left on Copperhead trail, then left on Melvern, and then right on Desert Vista Trail. The parking area will be at the end. The address above seems to work on Mapquest, not on google. When in doubt, use my directions

Hey everybody, I may have to cancel this meetup since I will not be able to attend and others who have hosted in the past will not be there either. If someone who plans to attend and knows the hike route can step up to host, can you please message me and let me know? Thanks

Hi David - I think the above link to the map for Phoenix Sonoran preserve is outdated, it doesn't seem to have all the trails. Try this one:
