Carpool 7am, Hike 9:45am
Moderate 7.8 miles RT Elevation Gain 1,900ft
This lovely Fall Colors trail starts at Lockett Meadow (just recently opened by the Forest Service after the Schultz Fire closed it over two years ago) and takes you into the San Francisco Peak's Inner Basin. From Right to Left you have Rees Peak (11,474ft), Aubineau Peak (11,878), Agassiz Peak (12,356), Fremont Peak (11,969) and Doyle Peak (11,460). The hike in is a steady climb through aspen, fir and pine forests and ends at the Weatherford Trail. In past years you could make a loop out of it by taking the Weatherford Trail to the Waterline Trail. However this will be an out and back trek because the Waterline Trail is still closed.
DUE TO THE HIGH ELEVATION (8,600 to 11,000ft) AND TIME OF YEAR, INCLEMENT WEATHER CAN OCCUR. PLEASE BE PREPARED FOR RAPID AND UNPREDICTABLE WEATHER CHANGES, SUCH AS RAIN OR SNOW. Optional lunch afterwards at Charly's Pub & Grill inside the Weatherford Hotel 23 N. LeRoux Street Flagstaff 86001 928.779.1919.
