Park Map:

This is a tester hike, to see if anyone is interested in a fitness hike on this side of the valley.  We will start at the Wagon Wheel/Skyline entrance to the park, hike up to the graves, head down into the wash, and up the other side, to the saddle.  The hike to the saddle is rather steep and loose in places, so wear good hiking shoes.  Bring a flashlight, just in case.  Dogs are welcome.

Directions:  From 202 San Tan, head south on Power Road to Hunt Hwy.  Head east (left) on Hunt Hwy to Wagon Wheel Road.  Head south on Wagon Wheel, follow the road around to the right (Skyline) and either park inside the gated area, or on the outside.  Parking inside the gated area cost $7 per vehicle (or a Maricopa County Park Pass).  If you park outside of the gated area, the walk in fee is $2.  Wagon Wheel is between Sossaman and Hawes, on Hunt Hwy.  If you reach the light on Hawes, you have gone too far.  From the 202/Power Road to Wagon Wheel is about 11 miles.

Please bring plenty of water, proper hiking shoes, hats, flash lights, and your after work energy!

Sona, Sue, and Joni, I will be continuing this hike on Thursdays for a while. I will throw in an occasional Sunday morning. Sue, I'll be hiking this Sunday at 7, with my dogs, and Stef with her dogs, if you want to join us. We will be starting at the Rock Peak Trailhead, and making an 8 loop out of Rock Peak Wash, San Tan trail, and the Malpais trail. This hike takes about 3 hours, and there's a lot of sand.

I really do want to do this hike because I want to support hikes in this area because I live in East Mesa. However, this Thursday is just impossible. I have a dog boarding business and I have a pickup that evening. Darn! Hope you will continue hikes in this area. Would really enjoy at Saturday or Sunday morning hike in the winter. I do love night hiking long as I am with experienced night hikers very familiar with the terrain!

I'd love to go to San Tan park, but *this* Thursday isn't good. I hope you post another hike soon!

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
