I maintain a blog at www.PracticalShelter.org and have a personal fascination with minimalist living. I spent a summer building mansions for a builder in Maryland and never wanted one. I wanted one of the in-law suites that was often part of the larger house. I recently bought land in Leicester and plan to break ground on my own home in the spring. I also plan to manufacture a line of studio apartment sized homes as part of the hands on curriculum for the online school. I have a partially completed prototype sitting on a trailer, soon to be rolled onto a block foundation and then completed. My passion is to develop rapid deployment housing for use in post-disaster scenarios. I shot a lot of video showing how various housing designs held up at the intersection of Hurricane Francis and Charlie in Florida. I studied the FEMA trailer problem after Katrina. And I've been working on various solutions. I personally like minimalist living and feel at home in my eighteen foot conversion van.
I'd like to help with Asheville Tiny Home Association events and help promote fresh ideas through my blog.
I hope to remain teachable.
I possess basic carpentry, electrical, and project management skills. I'm always willing to volunteer in group settings and swap or barter hours for the personal projects of others.
I have enjoyed a long management career within various technology fields. Now, I am developing an online school that focuses on the practical disciplines among other things. I come from a long line of builders.
Very good teamwork!
