Why is sustainable living important to you?

To save at least a small corner of the earth and some people to transition to a post fossil fuel and clean water world.

How involved do you want to be?... Passive member, plan on attending events, volunteering time, and/or hope to build your own home?

Attend events, volunteer time to others, build our own home too.

What do you hope to get out of this experience?

To build a post fossil fuel transition home in a survivable place and to share friendship with people also moving towards a sustainable future.

What skills do you have to offer?

MACRO: - Co-chaired Design Committee for a 19 house resident developed, designed, and built neighborhood successfully completed in 2001. Volunteered and participated in most aspects start-to-finish during development. Learned about many things which must be done to get a mid-size development project from the initial idea to completion. - Learned from my parents mistakes made regarding construction of their underground solar home. - I understand solar, wind, and hydroelectric power generation systems. - Ditto geothermal HVAC - Understand radon, condensation, and air/water infiltration issues - Have experience with surface runoff management and erosion prevention techniques - landscaping experience MICRO - - Have basic carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and gardening skills and tools. Some masonry and tiling tools. One a good chain saw (Stihl 251). - Measure & cut materials, and apply fasteners & sealants in a workmanlike manner. - More...

My wife Bernice and I moved to Asheville May '12 'cause it's a great town & to be near 2 of our kids. We want to join or build a sustainable community able to survive a post-fossil fuel world.
